Lemon tree, not bearing fruit yet

I planted a lemon tree from seed. It must be 2.5 years old or so. It's about 10 feet tall now, lush and green. I've ready for some fruit, how can I get the message through to the tree? The lower limbs and perhaps the tip top could be trimmed. Any experienced growers want to offer some advice?

If you live in an area where your winters get cold its best to bring them inside for the winter otherwise they just don't want to fruit out. At least that's what my aunt does.

From what I've read and experienced about growing citrus from seed, the trees have to have a certain amount of growth before they will flower and fruit. I have a tangerine tree that I grew from seed, its about 8 years old and about 15ft tall. This is the first year its had fruit. Also wouldn't recommend any pruning it until its had flowers/fruits.

Where'd you get the seed? Often with citrus trees, a seed grown plant will not grow true. From what I understand, pretty much all citrus trees are grafted to produce reliably... Growing from seed is hit or miss. I have a lemon tree I purchased (grafted), it is only about 6ft or so and has been spitting out lemons as fast as it can since I got it over a year ago now...

I got it from a lemon tree, afaik there are no other citrus in the immediate area. I know it's kind of a crap shoot but I mean what can really go wrong? If it ends up being a tangerine all the better

I don't think I explained what I wanted how I wanted to...
What I was talking about is if you grow from seed, they may well not put out fruit at all. I mean, yes. If you grow a lemon from seed, it will definitely be a lemon tree, not a tangerine or grapefruit, but the big question is if it will ever fruit at all or not.
The only exception I know of to this is Key Limes... You can start key limes from seed and they will reliably produce fruit.

That would be a bummer! Thx for the heads up. I could always graft from another tree though if it came to that.

I agree. I kind of felt bad chiming in here saying that. I hope this isn't the case for you though... If this isn't the case though, and your plant will indeed fruit eventually, I don't know how old it has to be to do so... Although I would think at the size it is that it would have started by now.

Everything I read online suggested that a lemon from seed would take 3 years at the very least, most likely more. If I don't get fruits soon I will probably graft the branches, all except one just to so I can see how long it takes for that one branch to put out.

If you want to get really creative, you might could graft all kinds of species to the tree... Grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, etc. Make one of those 'Tree of 40 Fruits'... I suppose it would work as long as you stick to related citrus species...

Actually a really good idea, I may do that to some extent.
