I definitely predict more and more desertification as time goes on. These droughts tend to kill a lot life, which destroys the land's water retention, and eventually turns things into deserts. I'm no environmentalist, so wtf do I know really?
My unprofessional opinion is that this problem will disappear for a year or two, then come back increasingly in waves until we sell California to Mexico.

It's just El Nino. In a year or two the drought will be gone. Then in a few more years it will be La Nina and California will have flooding and mudslides. Then a few more years and the cycle will repeat.

How so? If the ice caps are melting then there is more water liberated in the global system. Wouldn't this lead to more rain?

I meant localized in California. That's where the drought hit and that's the land that is losing precious water retaining life.
Idk really though, your idea of el nino/nina cycles seems likely too. Either way, shit's fucked up environmentally over there.

Doesn't Dubai artificially make it rain, like, all the fucking time? Why can't California just pull some Tesla shit and create some rain clouds

Yes it is. Climate's a-changin. So, it's hard to predict what will happen. Climate has never stopped changing though. It has always changed since the dawn of Earth. Anthropogenic climate change, that's a real thing IMO.

Yep, you can put silver iodide in the clouds and water droplets coalesces to it until the drops are big enough to precipitate. It is called cloud seeding.

ocean surface area stays the same, mostly. I mean coastlines are supposed to disappear by 20feet or so but on the grand scale of things Im going to go out on a limb and say that doesn't mean much to it.
the real problem is that once those ice caps melt, fresh water stops flowing, which means there's nothing to evaporate on land then(after it drys up). So then were really fucked because a lot of the air moisture comes from land masses as they are like sponges, lots of surface area for evaporation that can cause rain

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_seeding While practiced widely around the world, the effectiveness of cloud seeding is still a matter of academic debate. In 2004 the United States National Research Council released a report stating that to date, there is still no convincing scientific proof of the efficacy of intentional weather modification as it only has 30% or less chance of success.[7]

They are saying we will possibly have the wettest winter yet. There is like 3 El Ninos lined up coming at us, they named it Godzilla El Nino.
So hopefully we won't be dry much longer.

So far I've yet to find anywhere where drivers can though the roads in Washington that are designed for heavy rains with good middle of the road reflectors everywhere are definitely the most comfortable.

No, it's completely terrible in Socal. And I grew up in Nova/DC area. A couple drops of precipitation hits the ground and californians drive like complete idiots, worse than normal google maps looks like this after it rains
 Every. Single. Time.

I live in the LA area, and i can vouch for this. People think that they can just drive as if it weren't raining, and everything will just sort itself out. I could point out at least 5 places where at least one person will crash every single time it rains, and thats just counting the 101 and 405 freeways east and north of the interchange respectively
