Syrian refugees in my gym...

I just heard that the gym where I play basketball four times a week will be used to house Syrian refugees.
(not my actual gym but this is what it will be like next week)
No basketball for me...
#firstworldproblems #fml
Honestly though, a third of the large office buildings in Amsterdam South East is vacant. Why not stash them there? They'll even have privacy...

Cause the City of Amsterdam owns the sports place and the office buildings are privately owned?

I know little of what's happening with the refugees coming into Europe right now, but I'd be pissed off like you if I couldn't play because of the issue.
How I relate to this is by the thousands of Cuban migrants that wash onto the beaches in the area of the country I live every year. They are immediately given an American citizenship as long as they put one foot on the ground (sand). Anyways, for the most part, they are fucking up the local economy. They haven't ruined basketball for me yet. When that day happens, I may just write a strongly worded letter to Raul Castro.

Yeah I know... But damn these offices have been empty for years. They don't even bother with temporary residency (antikraak) even though there is such a shortage.
These corporations man I'm telling you, bastards. Listing the values of these office buildings at 4-5 times the value at which they bought it in their administration. The building is a shit storm from the '80s and is worth significantly less in todays market. Demolishing it only costs money. Selling it means taking your loss. Nobody wants to rent it either and adapting for housing is too costly because of all the safety requirements. Appearently a place can be safe enough to work in but not safe enough to live in...
They say the crisis aid in my gym will be for a maximum of 72 hours. I have a hard time believing it. Where will they go after? Everything is full or privately owned

There are people that want to ruin Western culture, this is the best way to go about it.

Yes they want to ruin a culture, not escape a war.

I wasn't referring to the refugees themselves, I'm talking about the promoters of it.

Dude go play some street ball, there's gotta be a park somewhere. And as for the rest of y'all, quit complaining and be proud. Doing this kind of humanitarian aid is beneficial to human kind

It isn't about what they 'want'. Look at Europe and Christian culture, then Muslem culture.

It can be, but it can also be disastrous to the countries that get invaded. It's impossible to save "human kind" every time a crisis develops.

In Finland these "refugees" made a statement that they won't eat the food they are given for free because it is shit in ther opinion. the joke is they are served the same food as in, kindergardens, schools, old people's homes, hospitals and in jails. Some of those "victims" have even stopped eating to boost they demands of more free everything.
Goldeneye
There is exactly same thing happening 3 kilometres from my home atm. Finnish goverment is even making new laws that put these Imigrants on the top of every fucking list like: Housing, govermental jobs...etc.

That sucks, OP. A hard working, tax paying citizen like you is getting tossed to the curbs in favor of non-tax-paying leeches.

He's not being tossed to the curb. He can't play basketball temporarily. I bet there's other gyms he could play basketball at though, and he's failed to mention that part. These people are trying to get out of a war torn country so they don't have to watch their family and children die in front of them, or them die and have their children watch it.

There is an incredible shortage of sport facilities so no, I can't just go and play basketball somewhere else. I pay 480 euro's a year to play. I also pay tax I play competition and even my refs for games are paid. So no, I can't just play outside in the rain somewhere. It's autumn fool.
Anyways...
I don't mind my government letting in Syrian refugees. I don't mind not playing basketball for 72 hours.
What I do find really hard is that I am in no position to judge the motives of these refugees. I guess it would be good to go and have a talk with them when they are there.
I recently came across this comic: (If it's not accurate at least its pretty!)

I'm sure it's one of those problems that's a lot more imtricate and complex than any singular opinion expressed in this thread.
