Has stopping using acne washes helped your face at all?
    #22321591 - 10/01/15 10:59 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

To those of you that used/use acne face washes with salsylic acid or some other acne combating ingredient, have you tried stopping with improved results? because I'm going to try this after hearing about it so much. I've been washing my face 3 times a day with acne cleanser for months and my acne hasn't really changed; so I'm figuring, it can't hurt

Wish me luck!

Ive never relly had too much trouble with acne. Ill get the occasional monster zit and flaring up but it kind of just always handled itself over the course of a few days. 99% of the time i just wash my face with soap and water. If we have any noxzema i would use that but never noticed a real difference. But i got lucky with pretty clear skin so ymmv.

salsylic acid dries out ur skin which can also contribute to more acne if you use too much of it. it's really meant for occasional spot-treatment it shouldn't be used as a wash.

for a face wash use something gentle like neem/tumeric wash and only do it 1-3 times a week.

also stop touching your face. face-touching is the #1 cause of acne

I used to use a cycle when I had acne of 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, more or less. I'd clear up within the first week, start to break out the 2nd week, then either stop/begin treatment again and have 1 week clear, 2nd week begin to breakout etc.

Good luck with it man I remember how shit it used to be. Mine was never anything worse than moderate but it still took a pretty heavy toll on self confidence. Stick with it brotha

Havent read the responses yet, but three times a day is definitely to much. Especially with acne related washes. You are probably irritating your skin and making things worse. Try cutting back and stopping for awhile, I feel like you will see improvements. I had really bad body acne, and I would shower twice a day thinking I was doing the right thing cleaning my skin. It cleared up quite a bit when I went to once a day because my skin was getting irritated/dryed out and my body would boost the grease because of this I think.

Also, your body builds a immunity to acne medications. Especially the antibiotics they give. Sometimes they work really well in the beginning, then after awhile dont work at all and just start making things worse.

Same here. I feel like stressing about acne causes it.

Does your face wash contain parabens?  I have rosacea and had this problem with a lot of facial cleansers.  I switched to one without parabens and it's better.

Stop eating breads and other grain foods for a fortnight and see if that makes a difference.

I used to have acne when I was young and uses those acne washes with limited results, now I have no acne and just splash my face with water and occasionally bar soap once a day. No acne. But probably just because I am almost 30 now.

100% Yes. It will flare out real bad for 2 monthsfrom withdrawls. Just wash with water. Soap sometimes. But really rubbing in hot water does good.
