Went looking today...

I live near three different pastures. Horse and cow pastures. But no luck. I think all I found on manure were Panaeolus antillarum. Everything that was growing on are around manure, when picked, didn't bruise blue. Maybe tomorrow I'll go back and pick a handful of different ones I saw today. I guess I should have, but nothing bruised blue, so I didn't bother. I've looked at the list here for my state...South Carolina "mushrooms that grow wild in my area", but I haven't found anything yet. When I do, you guys will be the first to know. My question, do the mushrooms have to bruise blue? I found a little small mushroom today that the stem was brownish and thin but again, no bruising blue. I see a few growing in another pasture down the road, so hopefully something will turn up. Thanks.

IME, some species dont turn blue immediately. Especially Pan. Cincts. I remember i picked a handfull of them a while back and they turned blackish while i was asleep, but never *blue* it depends on the mushy really

Usually about 1 in 20 Panaeolus cinctulus will show bluing. Varies though, some collections blue more and others hardly at all. The blue is most common on the stem base, but can also be on the younger caps.
The three Psilocybe species that grow in your state are very rare, though there might be some places where P. cubensis is common. The other two are much more common.

cubensis is quite common in many parts of SC, mainly the eastern half of the state; i've spotted them (and confirmed after stopping) at 50+mph from the highways that run through cow pastures...especially in the so called Lowcountry.

I edited http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-psilocybin-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area to reflect your observation.

Found the disassembled mushroom yesterday in my yard. The two images of the ones growing are in my yard as well. Anything special? The purplish spore print, the slight purplish ring on stipe has me hoping for an active find. But, you guys know better than me. So I'll wait and see. Thanks

I found these as well. I guess I enjoy walking and the adventure. To see what I find. The little orangeish one was with another mushroom of same color. This is the first time I saw anything like it. The second mushroom is from the horse pasture area. I'm not sure what it is. It was just cool looking. I probably should have left it growing. It's from the horse pasture I visit, but not in the pasture. On the road between two pastures. The third mushroom picture, the tall dome top looking one in tall grass was from a horse/donkey/(was once a goat pasture pasture) that i visit. I'll try and get back tomorrow and see what it is as I had to use my zoom to see what it might have been.

I believe the little orange mushroom could be a Mycena leaiana. This site has a description. Mycena leaiana, the orange Mycena. Says the mushroom loves water...of course it does. lol But it's been very wet here lately.

Im very curious to know what that dried mushrom is. Has qualities of a Psilocybe but im quite certain it isn't.

Mycena leaiana grows on wood - this looks more like Humidicutis marginata. The other pics in that post are Stropharia rugoso-annulata and Conocybe apala.

Stropharia coronilla. Edible, but not active.
