An eye trick
    #22319946 - 10/01/15 04:33 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

An eye trick.

Well, two eye tricks. . my dad shared with me when I was young.

The first one is part of relaxation, sort of a physiological button to relax.  My dad called it sort of a shortcut to meditation, I came up with the physiological button phrase.

Basically, it sends waves of relaxation throughout the body. . . Of course, walking through the woods, or any other type of meditation is still excellent - this is really best in conjunction with a lot of other healthy practices of living.

The mechanism is - you gently roll your eyes upwards, towards the back of your head.  My dad sort of suggested to me that 30 seconds is a good amount, I do 15-20 more myself. . Actually as time goes by, it gets more second-nature.

I always knew it worked very well - the proof in the pudding, so to speak, for me was when I was on shrooms and then I did it. . it was one of those whoa! moments.

So later on I described it as - sends waves of relaxation throughout the body. . and interesting also whenever I reflect on how we are each the universe, in whole, etc.

So - as I said, I always knew it worked very well; but at 15 when I partook of shrooms the first time was the total proof for me. . Then - it was so much more apparent. . . the waves of bliss that it sent through the body -

Much more clear. . . So this one is Very Wonderful for health. . . As - the deeper relaxed we are - the healthier - more energy, etc. . . in fact, relaxation is where it's at. . .

I remember sharing that with a friend at Aikido and he's like, yup.

To briefly mention also - a good idea or piont by a Zen teacher - why wait until we are at home to be at home?

Or to be as though at home. . . This method made sense --- was very useful to me. . It is quite possible to do the whole day

restfully. . .

So, while walking, to be at home with ourselves, to be deeply settled. . . while working - etc.

This is like - using energy to our best. . and, of course close connected with the practice of not getting in our own way (being unified in one's energy, etc.)

So that was the first one - second one also came from my dad; that one is to stare at the distant horizon. . this relaxes eye muscles.

Some meditators have all sorts of rules, and they don't understand that almost anything can be meditation. . .

This one - especially - is great . . The reason is, the eye relaxes to look at objects far distant, while it contracts to look at objects up close.  So therefore, to gaze at something distant - trees, clouds - for one's meditation is

useful in three or four ways - and, layering these together, improves the effectiveness, etc.

To my knowledge, well, having studied a lot, I've never seen it mentioned really, as a meditation technique. .  but trust me lol, it's basically best.  Actually - trust yourself; if you know me at all you know that's the main thing I ever say to people.

The basic point of it is that it's a vision technique - so, it's probably mentioned there, but because of that it works excellently as meditation, too.

Along the same limes - to avoid carpel tunnel - if you're ever doing something repetitive, with your hands, to take breaks every 10-15 minutes, ( even for a couple minutes ), shake up, loosen and limbering your hands and fingers is a good way to prevent carpel tunnel. . .

Also, of course, genlty massaging the fingers, palm, hand muscles - etc. - is very helpful. . .

This we learned from early war operators - working on the morse code thingies. . . they didn't know it then but they learned.

There ya go.

Your dad must really know you well.

My dad passed when I was 15 from brain cancer.

He taught me how to be a man at a young age.

I tried your eye trick which brought.memories of my first acid trip where my eyes grew fond of my upper forehead.

I like how you brought up the horizon. It also does wonders for sea sickness.

oh wow - this was beautiful to see,

thank you so much my friend. ..  will say a prayer too for your dear father and,

hehe not that we need to say prayers for those in heaven :sun: hehe

but it seemed like a decent thing to say :sun:

yes, my father.. oh, dear friend, we always had the best relationship, was so grateful. . .

then it did get rocky for a brief stretch and like, have honestly felt the deepest relief,

gladness, and... so much happiness that we got back to - really and truthfully,

as beautiful as it was before -- which, well, am thankful...

your dad sounds wonderful too -

i learned a ton, grew up very early,

was so fortunate to have friends like my best friend Andrew, and lots of other people who were such wonderful mentors. ..

coz' they are always there --  '' it's a poor pupil who doesn't surpass his master '' goethe said,

and it's so true- and of course, as everything, beautiful -- but it's wonderful :sun:

and as children .. . what's lovely is, i realize - we really see so clearly as children. . . .

like - so beautifully, and we know -- we see and we know, and we don't tell others their flaws, but --

even my friend andrew, who was like. . . man, incredible; yet even him i noticed where. .. like-

where each place. . anytime there is or was a slight mistake in someone's creation. . . like,

it's so beautiful - 'coz we see and know as children. :sun:

ya the eye trick - wanted to bump it just 'coz, was very beautiful just now, with it. . and,

like i say, proof of pudding was totally and completely during my first or second shroom trip,

first i think,

at 15, or 16 fairly normal age i guess :sun:  hehe

that was the proof and it was so beautiful and .. . like i say, waves of bliss.

an - also, second thing i didn't share 'dyet, this little habit helped me do a lot at work once,

this cool job i had, drivin' trucks 'roun campus and movin' stuff, etc., pickin' up cpus and randomness,

a bit of the hard work aspect but much easier than previous bindery work -- loved so much. hehe

anyway - this trick almost alone helped me do a nice day-- a good 9 hours or a little more,

then hung out with the guy Dan, Dan Alexander in fact haha. .. so hilarious. .

had found out later that i knew him from the game-room, when i was a kid, anywho,

him and Rocky, this totally interesting. .. well, another story -

but hung out and stayed up 'til about 6 a.m., playin' tha' lovely game. . .

a... star wars somethin' ;-)  where you have figures with -- it's a mix of d'n'd almost

and somethin star-warsy . .. pretty cool.  so then slept a couple hours and went back to work. ..

(only 2 hours, tho' ) as it was a saturday and just a random couple hours extra.

very cool, like helps a great deal -- and, only a bit of caffeine... I mean -

this practice, just deeply relaxation too the body and mind / h'art etc. . .

so it's very nice --  tho' normally i only once in a blue moon

stay up all night or anything - normally i like plenty of sleep :-)

just however much my body wishes -

an' like - the bindery - that one, loved it b'coz, it was such tough work but

so good for body'soul.  we would move  about 15 tons a night, i calculated,

just of magazines, onto pallets out of the machine w/ hot plastic on 'em,

an' the job conditions were - hehe, took a bit of gettin' used to -

12 hr shifts w/ only 2 20 minute breaks. . .

my first night. . .

at 3:00  i am ready to go home and talk like it a bit,

and then hehe. . learned the full shift. . .

which of course - 20 min' was short break,

wasn't used to that -- even 30 was a huge shock!  when i went to a job that had that. . .

but i loved it so well b'coz, like i say - so good for body/mind,

like a hard work / zen type of thing ( zen i think has )

an' any thing like that --- those i give all my time / energy to,

would go home and sleep, a good 9.25 hours, for which work it needed; and then basically go back to work. . .

of course, i only worked there for 6 months ---

so lovely and health-benefitting for a 6-month period. . . strengthening in awesome ways. .

'least of which was not    cerebral growth;  i would read best books on --- one good topic. ..  :sun:

hehe. . . at each 30 second interval or so. . . other times, just was present :-) sometimes mantra etc.

o ya - but, a job like that,  long long term isn't so good. . . but ya :-)

an' my other job i left sooner for something more environmentally friendly, tho' my friend there,

'coz it made 0 sense ecologically.

:sun:

I worked in a bakery from midnight till 10 a.m. Smoked a lot of cannabis and baked till the sun rose. A lot of alone time there. The chemistry is what interest me. Making subs rolling the dough, dipping rolls in salt n seeds, packaging sub rolls, and making the cuts on the bread.

Each morning reminded me of my grandma because there was a cathedral right across the street and the sun rose down the street so there was a great sunrise to reminisce the nights work.

That sounds like a truly divine experience.  What was your grandma like? if you feel comfortable sharing.  Mine was a writer and historian, and a very fond cat-lover.

A lot of wisdom traditions talk about preparing food with love - that it makes a tremendous difference in the taste, quality and healthfulness of the food. . . I have come to very slightly understand this - only a very tiny bit, but definitely 've come to believe it's true, and will continue to explore that facet -- I can imajin that the friends who got to eat what you had prepared were very blessed by it.

Or at least, so it seems to me...  As you describe it, such a blissful experience, and perfect peace; so I can imajin a lot of that went to the community around you. :sun:

My grandma was very caring. She baked a lot and alays had goodies for me. She had these lemon cookies that were to die for. She would pay me 20 bucks to use the push mower for the front and back lawn. She was old school.

Reminds me of my great-Aunt Mary. . she was bi-polar or as i prefer to call, fire soul'd; she was my aunt by marriage rather than birth, but in so many ways, she'll always be one of the most important people to me.  She loved yogurt in cereal a great deal, and she would write these wonderful, short and sweet poems about Buffalo or other things.

Thank you for sharing. . i know she is with you still.

Peace and love.
