the marching hoards
    #2231165 - 01/09/04 01:18 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

I am currently reading Czeslaw Milosz's 1953 classic book "the captive mind". Which is a book, kind of like a poetic fictional essay, about how people in the eastern bloc thought under rule from Moscow.

It's fucking brilliant, scary, sad, funny and brilliant.

So brilliant that, after putting it down and falling to sleep it induced me to have a night terror last night (being physically awake but mentally dreaming). I woke up and I heard some yelling outside my window...yelling and marching. It sounded like a big group of people were marching in unison and agressively chanting some sort of slogan.

But it wasnt really a slogan, but an acronym. Something meaningless like AWC, AWC!, AWC!. It was terrifying. I looked out my window, but couldnt see anything, so I quickly locked my door and went back to bed. I wanted to scream "shut the fuck up!" but I thought they might come to my house and kill me if I did, so I remained silent.

The chanting continued until I fell back into deep sleep.

I'm pretty sure I was awake, because this has happened to me before when I was younger, and there have been witnesses. Its alot like sleep-walking, except more on the conscious side.
