I don't think more thorough background checks will be very effective, what the US needs is not a little bandaid solution, but a complete overhaul of the entire mental health system.

:whathesaid:

You could completely overhaul the background check system but I dunno that it'd do much good. AFAIK they can't access your medical records so even if you had been going to the doctor for some mental illness, the only way they'll know is if you admit to it or they find it out in their investigation on why you decided to shoot up some public place. Before you've committed a crime, I don't think they can legally access that information.

Someone who decides to shoot up a school is not right in the head. There is something inside of you badly broken. Until we deal with this fact, no measures are going to have a significant impact on shit like this.

The problem is not guns. The problem is psycho fucks who have decided life is so meaningless and worthless that it's okay to go and kill a bunch of people and most likely die in the process their self.

They can't realize something that is not true. They've decided. If your life sucks so bad you wanna die, do everyone a favor and just shoot yourself in your own home. No one gets to decide that 10 other people are so worthless it's okay to take them with them..

i mean they've 'thought' they've realized it. :sadyes:

i wasn't being literal.

many people have decidedly pondered the meaning of life, and thus far no one has realized any potential meaning of it all other than self-preservation/self-interest. what do you think about that?

That crazy people blew their self-preservation fuse, or else they wouldn't engage in an activity that is almost definitely going to end up with them dead. What am I supposed to make of it? It's not as if humans are the only selfish beings, pretty much all living things operate under self interest and self preservation, even the ones who appear to work "for the good of the population" are still only doing it for self interest. That's the biggest driving factor that keeps life going.

well if it was in their self-interest to do what they did, and that's the meaning of life afterall, then how can you say that's not true, that they did what they did realizing that it was true, that they WANTED to it? afterall it's not like they weren't afraid; they certainly did have their thoughts on self-preservation if they intended to meet a certain plan's adherence, if only at least to extend their live's in order to achieve that plan, a certain head-count maybe...and it was in their self-interest! they wanted to do it, so they could...who knows...feel free? feel something they've always wanted but could never have? perhaps just TAKE something they thought they should be able to take. don't people do that everyday?

Wonder what they really kicked him out for?
:kingtard: . . . :peace:

I can answer this without looking.

Fort "Relaxin'" Jackson is where the junior varsity trains. Its the main destination for National Guard and Reservists. Its also the Army's go to public relations face. Long story short its fucking lame. Active duty Infantry or Engineers is a very different creature.

If HM couldn't hack the Army's summer camp then it was the right call to discharge him after a month. Wait to the details from the DOD, they have the real dirt on this guy and it will be ugly. They kicked him out for being an absolute piece of crap. Somewhere in the paper work you will find phrases like "detriment to himself", "danger to others" and "does not reflect Army values".

HM was damaged goods long before he arrived at basic. No doubt a lot of people failed him. Mental health and its treatment is the underlying problem, but because of its stigma no one wants to touch it. Instead these loose cannons are let loose in our society where they eventually destroy our liberties, our laws and our lives.

didn't he just nonchlantly walk into the building, and then into a class? A quick background check at the door could have slowed him down. They could just have a check in room, and then when you are cleared they can unlock the second set of doors. They could simply ask him why he's here, and if he has any kids that go to the school, and if he acts weird and doesn't give a good reason they could press a button and have authorities on the premises come see whats up

I meant physically. But psht I've beaten him quite a few times intellectually where he resulted to name calling. lol
That said he has beaten me a few times to which I conceded. But most of the time I'd say we just agree to disagree.

I think he'd say otherwise. Honestly speaking, anyone who usually tries to engage him in intellectual discussion gets destroyed. Insults are part of his persona regardless of the situation really. It's not something you can base a win off of.

I avoid getting into it with him because I know better, though there was one time I proved him wrong. Wasn't anything major though. It was a "I never said that" thing in which I showed him where he said it.
