Makin' an hybrid syringe: possible?
    #2231699 - 01/09/04 06:35 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everyone once again.
Today I looked towards my 2 spore prints (Mexican, Mazatapec)
and I asked my-self: "why not trying to get them together in a
unic inoculation?". I took away some spore of Mexican, some of Mazatapec, and after sucked up all the solution in just one syringe.
Is anything goin' to come out?  Anyone had any experiment like this?
Hope for a reply from somebody.

Greet,

      R.

If you want to start "breeding" new strains, you really need to be doing agar work nad have a microscope so that you can isolate indivual hypha of the two strain and try to get them to cross.

I can't find the exact quote, nor do I have the time to keep looking for it at this point, but in TMC Stamets notes that many new strains produced by crossing two pre-existing strains often do not produce as well as either of the "parent" strains did. This is, of course, not an absolute.

I think you will find that only one will dominate. They will not cross. Two differant gene pools.

I don't see how making a "hybrid" of two different types of cubensis is really a hybrid since they are technically the same specie. The only difference is the region from which they come. These are mushrooms, not pot plants. Why not just grow them seperately and eat equal portions?

cross breading strains is making a hybrid just like with all types of plants. We are all the same specie but if we mate outside our race we are hybriding. I know that sounds kinda weird but its true. And making a hybrid might make that mushroom you just created have the best trates form both parents and be a twice as good as either or it can be the exact oppisite.

You are correct...

There is good info regarding hybridisation and genetics in general with in this post.

the dominant strain will prevail obviously, but hoping for a super strain or something simillar will not happen without work. genetics and changing them definitely will take some work  no offense intended.

I noticed that you replied to me instead of the person you were intending to. Part of a coherant discussion is to address the person to whom your thoughts are directed toward.

If you meant the post to be directed toward me...I'm confused as it isn't reletive to anything I said as far as I can understand.

Then I looked at your avatar and forgot where I was...very cool!

with mushies (and all sexually reproductive organisms) everything is a hybrid, just depends how specificly related the organism is to its mate.

It looks like you address the right person most of the time. It just bugs me when the conversation doesn't flow.

It's like if we were in a group and you look at me and start responding to me about someone elses statement...I'd have to check you out for having a lazy eye or something.

BTW...I did give you a break..."Then I looked at your avatar and forgot where I was...very cool!"

That is me realising the grand nature of reality...nothing really matters. The finite is the infinite related in different scales...like a fractal. I was simply trying to increase the resolution of our conversation-fractal.

Peace,
Joshua

I am sorry for the digression. I did take the discussion to PM's in order not to hijack your thread any further.

I hope you had a chance to read through this thread as there is information in it that explains the answer to your question very well on both the cellular level and on the genetic level.
