It makes all your +1s anon, though.. Not just selectively.

The fact we can even see who did it is a pretty new feature.
One that I actually like quite a bit.

For years and years you always just had to wonder who it was.

Wait, what? We can see who +1's our posts now? How?

I'm always late when it comes to technological advances. I still have a slide phone, I didn't get Facebook until 2010, and I didn't get a cell phone until 2008. Worse yet, I didn't get Shroomery until 2010!

I've been hanging onto my old pantech flip phone for a while now too, not looking forward to a smart phone.

All those bells & whistles are over whelming, never been much of a tech guy myself. Although I know the internet access will come in handy.

There's times when I wish I had one, e.g., yesterday I was wondering what time/place the bus came to. I had to wander around until I found a stop, then look at the sign to figure out the time. I had missed it by two minutes. If I'd had a smart phone I would have gotten there on time. That said, I'm still glad I don't have one, because it seems like everyone becomes glued to it once they get one. I wanna avoid that for as long as I reasonably can, but then again, I don't wanna be the last person on Earth without one either.

Just use it as a tool then and not a compulsion.

Is that realistic though? I feel like everyone I know who owns one uses it compulsively.

Ha, only when I need to. Which'll likely be soon considering the sending/receiving issues.

Those are my feelings about it too, i'm kinda worried I'll turn into one of those people.
But having my "cool" old phone has left me with a disadvantage one too many times.

There's also price to consider. I got my current phone for free from a friend, and my plan is cheap as fuck. I'd rather put extra money toward owning a home than fancy gadgets.

Ha, i'm the complete opposite. I have to buy a new phone every year no matter what  I'm pretty into computers/technology though so I guess I could classify it as one of my hobbies

I mean, now that I have a smartphone, I can't imagine not having one.. But I'm not the kind of person that's gonna walk in front of traffic because I can't take my eyes off of it.

Yes, it's possible to not become one of those people, but you will spend more time on the new phone than you did on the old.. Mostly because you actually have something to do on it.
I mainly like it to look up odd questions that come up during the day or whatever... Or for shroomery / Reddit when I'm at work.

It'd be nice for reading on the shitter without having to lug a big book into the bathroom and have everyone know what you're doing. Or for plant identification. I currently have to carry a large three volume set if I want to ID in the field. With a smartphone, I could leave them at home, and actually get more information from a much smaller space.

But then you've got motherfuckers who can't even navigate streets without them. Like people are forgetting how to use cardinal directions, and decipher the grid/naming system of streets.

If you're on android, there's a unique web browser called 'puffin'. It has a trackpad option that puts a cursor on the screen. With that you may be able to so it on your phone. I tried it on my iPhone and it works on here.

The one thing I miss from old phones is writing text. With dictionary enabled, I could write text twice as fast on a 12 button phone.

I know what you're talking about and I think people are the problem, not the phones. In today's society things are being made easier and easier to do from the comfort of your own home. All the luxury has reduced our quantity of human contact which has has brought out an abundance of social retardation.
The phones allow an easy means to be antisocial for people when they're feeling left out. It makes them feel like the conversation isn't dead because they've nothing to offer, but instead because they're busy. It's a safety blanket.
