Well, I use a bucket to mix my shit in. I use jars to pasteurize the sub in. This is after an 80% fail rate using Damion50/50's bucket tek

Hmm, I read this KISS Tek I think. But if I remember correctly, there were some suggestions I didn't think were the best...

I'm blobbing again. It was probably 14 days before the pins (blobs) showed up. My other tubs (taped holes, 100%, case and fruit at 30%) took around 25 days before their pins (blobs).
So I guess I shaved some time off. Now I just need to figure out how to avoid blobs with this culture.

Why not fruit when you case? Obviously the myc is tearing through the casing so why wait until it's 30% consumed already?

Cheer up buttercup. You shaved 11 days off. THAT is what this thread is about!

Most of the PE posts to avoid blobs suggested 30% so I've done that mostly. I've only run a few PE tubs so haven't experimented with other stuff. This last round I did maybe 6 of them and did azur's method here, case at 100% and fruit at 30%, and fruit immediately after casing at 100%. They all blobbed, which is whatever.
azur,
Yup, glad to have shaved time. Just still trying to get the right habitat for no blobs is all!

I feel like the problem with fruiting immediately after casing is that if the casing thickness is uneven, the mycellium will reach the surface at different times, and fruiting seems to initiate only after rhizos get near the surface and start getting some serious evaporation/high surface humidity.
So yeah, I think it would lead to uneven fruiting if the casing wasn't even, which could easily happen if your sub initially wasn't level, your casing wasn't level, or both.
I've tended to like seeing mycellium near the surface of throughout like 75% of the casing, then patch and fruit.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Well as most know, i preach smooth, flat, and level substrates. Killer pinsets with no side pinning.

azur,
Yep, going with medium Poly on next tubs.
Mach,
Not sure if we're confusing terminology, but I don't give a shit about uneven fruiting times. With MS, fruiting times are going to be uneven across the board. I care about eliminating blobs. I don't think an uneven substrate is related to blob vs. fruit, but I'm no expert. In any case, I think my substrates and casings are pretty uniform.

Yeah...well contrary to what azur says (love ya buddy lol) I've found consolidating for a week after 100%, casing then fruiting right after eliminates first flush blobs for me. Waiting until it's 30% when your casing ends up 100% colonized doesn't make sense.

For sure. One thing I never do is consolidate after 100%. I'm going to do that with as a test soon.

You don't get blobs with your other methods and we're rocking the same culture. Too many factors at play to narrow down one thing. I remember people talking about nutrition playing a part, maybe one of RR's old theories. Anyway, not going to turn this into a blob thread since it's just about the technique involved at spawning. Going to test out new methods soon. And going to try this method with a non-PE ASAP!

I remember RR saying something about too much nutrition causing PE blobs, but then he also said it was so curious because he never got blobs fruiting straight from the grains. Go figure!
