pins! the case at spawning is an awesome method. so far its working better than using some leftover sub as casing during spawning.
i also have an uncased pe beginning to fruit. ive also done a 2nd batch of 6 tubs with the same exact method. all AA+.
these were cased and spawned 10.24.2015. AA again. From cornmeal LI prepared spawn.
ive not dialed anything in. just left the poly in how it was at spawning. and let the tub do the rest. this was the original method used in the first write ups for dub tubs and monotubs. set and forget. sometimes you find yourself going back to the oldies but goodies. pure gold that is.

Tub 1:
    Tub 2:

Tub 3:

Tub 4:

Really good points about this method:
1) you shave off time allowing the casing to colonize while the substrate colonizes. you don't have to wait for 100% bulk sub colonization. then more time for casing to colonize before inducing fruiting. 2) you can make your substrate and casing at the same time. for me, i mix the coir/verm/gypsum in a huge batch first. then take out enough for my casing. put that in a separate turkey tin for pasteurization. ill then add my bulk additives like dung/straw/strawnet mix that up and pasteurize all of this at once in separate tins. so ill do 5 tins. 1 for casing, 4 for bulk subs. thats 4 tubs worth in one oven cook. 3) You do all the work up front when you spawn. no other work is necessary until harvest. so when it comes time to fruit, apply casing, dial in your tub, it isn't necessary at all and the tubs fruit theme-selves. 4) this has shaved off so much time on my bulk prep and spawning sessions that I've already converted all my tubs to fruit like this. 5) it is faster than the top layer method. as when your spawning, mixing in 4 quarts with the substrate then layering 1 or 2 quarts on the top adds about an extra hours worth of work for me spawning 4 tubs. this method you mix it all up and just throw the casing on at the end.

My fruited at spawning tub is still well ahead of the others. But.... I think I was making my subs to wet. Tiny little fruits on the first flush.

They will probably blow up a day or two before harvesting. A few of mine did that; they were very small and I was like wtf. Then 2 days before harvest they suddenly grew to normal size. I backed off misting as like you noted, i think that was the cause

Fuck. I just picked 2 tubs and suddenly realized i was documenting this. So... Tub 1 all straw with casing layer Tub 2 half straw half hpoo/verm no casing Tub 3 hpoo/verm no casing

My tubs are still neck and neck at 4 days old. There are about a half dozen spots on each tub around the sides that need to finish up but the tops are pretty much colonized. I forgot to case these things at spawning. Should I put a casing on after full colonization or just let them go?

Case em now...or..what are they. If they're ape or pe or peu, then case now. If not, don't case at all

Okay azur ya have me sold on this. Just checked the tub that I spawned 12 days ago and cased/patched and upped the FAE 6 days ago and I got me some pins already. This clone always shoots out a couple early but, it usually takes at least 2 weeks to see those. 6 days after casing is excellent IMO for this bastard.
If yield doesn't drop off for some reason (I doubt it will), this will be my go to for spawning. Of course I did a few things differently from you but the principal is similar, more O2 during colonization is a good thing
I will throw up some pics tomorrow

Hell yea. Great to hear. I've noticed yields may look diminished at first, but it's always seemed to pull through by harvest time and weighs have been consistent as always.

Day six of my taped vs untaped experiment and they are still neck and neck for speed of colonization. I will be untaping the taped tubs tomorrow. IMO, it make no diffference during colonization. So taping tubs, if nothing else, is just unnecessary.
