What are your thoughts on cannibalism?

A lot of post-apocalyptic scenarios depict individuals resorting to cannibalism as part of a complete diet.
Would you resort to eating people under those circumstances? What about people that died of accidental causes (i.e., people you didn't kill)?
Let's say you're a member of a larger group. The hunters in your group do the hunting, not exclusively for humans, but will seize the opportunity when it arises. They bring the meat home, butcher it, and parcel it out. It's cooked and served up on your plate and you won't really know what you're eating until it's in your mouth. So do you partake? Or do you become a vegetarian?
If you were living in a village or group that ate supplemental human meat, but also supplied other animals like deer and pig and allowed you to choose whether or not to eat people, would you stay with that group?
(I've been playing a lot of The Last of Us lately: it's got my curiosity piqued about group interactions when it comes to cannibals.)

I feel like I'd be a constant state of anxiety if I lived in a cannibalistic community. I'd probably just opt to be a lone ranger, and inevitably die of starvation due to my pacifism.

I would not stay with that group. I have a thing against eating things that talk with words, like people, though starvation makes you do insane things.

If food is scarce and we're constantly starving . It's easy to say you wouldn't when it's not an issue, entirely different to not do it when it becomes an issue. Who really knows. People will do a lot of crazy insane shit to stay alive.

Pretty sure most people would eat anything (including humans) if the need was really there and they were faced with starvation.
Easy to say "no way, Jose" now, but when push comes to shove, that's what I believe.
So, yes, I would likely eat another human if I was faced with starvation.

If being a vegetarian is an option then yes I'd rather be a vegetarian. If I need human flesh to survive, I probably would eat it.

I'd rather be a cannibal than a vegetarian. Let's get real here, in a post apocalyptic scenario, vegetarianism is not a healthy way to live. You will almost definitely not have the variety of foods at your disposal you do now, and you certainly won't have the supplements to make up for your lack of meat. Humans do not thrive on lettuce or other single plant sources, I dunno that they can even reasonably live on a single plant source.
Your strength and resiliency will become FAR more important in a wasteland world. You need every edge you can get. You won't have reliable access to antibiotics, antiseptics or real medical treatment. Your body is mostly going to be responsible for fighting off infection, and that shit ain't happening when it's running at less than nominal efficiency.
Wanna die of a paper cut? Go into isolation, decide the only food source you need is a few different plants, and then get an extremely minor cut. You'd be surprised how easily that could lead to death. We take it for granted, but even the most minor injuries can be life threatening when the world has fallen to shit.

If there is not enough food available to survive without it, then hell yeah call me a humanist and serve me up some of that long pork.
even if the food situation improved and wasn't quite as desperate anymore, if that bridge had already been crossed and there wasn't a good alternative source of protein available I'd likely continue rather than go vegetarian.
but if there is enough other meat sources available, then I'd probably restrict my cannibalism to ritualistic eating of the heart of slain foes. because that shit is badass.

Ever read Shirley Jackson's the lottery? If it's a socially accepted thing, it'd work out just fine
I like the idea of culling the flock of the weak and infirm from time to time. If we're not going to do it ourselves, we should genetically engineer some sort of super predator.

I'm not saying I wouldn't eat a human, I most definitely would (especially reading an article about human flesh tasting like fine veal, yumm!). I just wouldn't wanna stay with a group who eats human. Because what happens once the food is scarce... o.O
