If the answer to why I can't control it now were "I'm an alcoholic" then I wouldn't have been able to control it the first time. Which I did, for months before quitting. I didn't even go back to it because I couldn't take not getting drunk. I made a conscious decision to do it for other reasons. It just didn't go as planned for whatever reason.

If people don't want to answer the question, why even come in here? You must have some shitty lives if you are so compelled to berate me over this shit. You don't know me, you have no emotional attachment to me, you have no reason to be angry and hostile with me for not quitting.

The only explanation is you hate yourselves or have some kind of self esteem issue and need to talk shit to feel better about your own problems.

It's simple, answer the question or just move along. You're not going to succeed in making me feel bad about myself, or going "You know what you're right, I'll just stop." You're 100% wasting your time. But by all means, go ahead and keep talking down to me so you can feel better about your own personal issues.

What the fuck is so hard to understand about this?? Just because a heroin addict manages to control their use for a short period of time doesn't mean they're no longer a heroin addict. You stopped drinking for a little bit, whoopty fucking doo! The point is, you find yourself unable to control your impulses to drink. This makes you an alcoholic and therefore is a sufficient answer to your retarded question.

I'm not saying I'm not an alcoholic just because I quit for awhile or slowed down. I'm saying that if being an alcoholic was the only answer to my question then I wouldn't have been able to do it the first time around. I obviously possess the willpower to keep my intake to a minimum. I feel as if there is something else combined with being an alcoholic that is causing me difficulty to control it. I made this thread to try and figure out what that something else might be. If I knew what it was, and could recognize or understand it, I'd stand a much greater chance at controlling it.

Either way the thread and question may be moot at this point. I have not gone 2 days in a row at less than 8 per day since I started again. I've now gone with 6 or less 5 days in a row. If I can hold this for another week or so, I can step down further. If I can get and stay at just 2 a night, I'll be happy. 2 a night really isn't that bad. There's even a considerable amount of study that says it could be good for someone to drink 1 or 2 daily. Though I'm not sure how that would relate to someone like me, who has spent a lot of time drinking heavily. I can imagine it's possible that it would hamper my body from recovering from the abuse.

Tl;dr

I too struggle with alcohol. I was drinking every single day for 5 years. I got to the point where I had to black out to be satisfied. Dumb I know but that's whttat people do. Dumb things. Anyway I started losing every job I had and fucking up my relationship with family and friends. I recently just got a new job and can't fuck this up. I just however was on a little 5 day bender. Withdrew a little yesterday and a little today. Usually extremely depressing and anxiety mix with the withdrawal. After the first two days of not drinking I notice I start getting a lot more positive. Just stick to it OP. Ia know it is easier said than done but well worth it. Now I try my best only to drink on weekends or if I do not have work the next day.

Quit drinking you pussy. Life's just too hard without that bottle huh? Boo hoo hoo. Cry us all a river. Or die. But if you drink yourself to death, which is what you're currently doing, you deserve it. You could have stopped at any time. Bullshit excuses not withstanding.

Don't have a bottle. Not drinking myself to death currently. Life is not too hard without the alcohol.

Refer back to what I said earlier about having self esteem issues. You don't know me or have any vested interest in my health. The only possible purpose you calling me a pussy and all this other stupid shit serves is to make you feel better about your own issues. At least I admit mine, time to face yours.

Wrong. Some people are never told the hard truth, because the people around them are as weak as they are. I'm simply telling you the hard truth, in case others have been putting it too gently for it to sink in.

More proof you're not really reading anything I post, or at least aren't comprehending it. The OP says nothing anyone can say in relation to being an alcoholic is news to me and have also replied directly to you and told you I've heard it all before. I got a lot of it in court mandated AA (from a charge that was not alcohol/drug related, but I was honest with the person who evaluates everyone on probation to determine if they need to be in substance treatment). I've also heard it from family/friends who worry about my health

I'm even fully aware of the repercussions I face in the future if I don't stop binge drinking. Pretty much my only motivation for actually making an effort to get it in check. Otherwise doesn't matter much. Been a heavy drinker for over a decade and I don't get in trouble or go drunk driving, don't lose jobs, don't get hungover or violent. I'm just your average guy who likes alcohol a little lot too much.

Point is, you're not telling me anything I haven't already heard and don't already know. Calling me a pussy and shit isn't really accomplishing anything either.

You lying about it and being in denial isn't proof of anything. Seek help. Go to AA meetings.

Fuck AA meetings they're filled with judgmental pricks. Just really shitty attitudes and think because they were a world class fuck up, every single alcoholic must also be a world class fuck up and that anyone who says otherwise is lying or in denial, constantly act like they know everything about everybody's life and they won't be told differently, kinda like you.

If you're an AA member, it could explain a lot about your responses in this thread.

So basically, your excuse is, you have "sleep problems". Assuming that's actually true, and you can't sleep at all without something to help you, then there are other ways to get help with sleeping. This thread reads like you just picked up the bottle instead of seeking legitimate help from a sleep specialist.

The definition of addiction is wanting to stop or slow down but being unable too. Someone already said it but working out has helped me slow my drinking a whole bunch. You get your natural endorphins flowing and it actually works kind of like another drug to make you not want to drink. It's easy to drink 14 beers when you're sitting around all day but not when you've been hiking and lifting weights to the point where you just pass out because you're so tired.

No hard alcohol
Exercise daily
Eat healthy
Reward youself with a tall can

I find I still need a tiny bit of alcohol most days but I went from drinking fifths of vodka to maybe a beer or two 5 nights a week. I use to drink a box of wine in 2 nights consistently which I know made me the alcoholic I am.

exercising has really helped me balance my drinking

the healthier u feel the less you'll want to drink/smoke

try taking a jog, run like a mile or something, after u're finished jogging the last thing on ur mind will be drinking, try to think about it and u'll probably puke

your medicating your sleep with alcohol therfor u dont think u should quit, or u will never sleep?
theres an excuse if i ever heard one.
AND YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEE THAT YOURSELF

please tell me your not suggesting that going to a sleep clinic would be so much worse than being an alcoholic, an addict for life?
