My friend's pet badger want to try this.
He's got everything except flax, which he can't find anywhere, not even the place he got the quinoa. So, any advice I can pass on? i.e. What it looks like, other names it might have, where it can be found etc.

The kind my dog uses for his substrate was found in a health food store. He found it in a black vacuum sealed bag in the refrigerator section. It was labeled "Ground Flax Seed".

sorry for the double post, didn't see this thread but..what do you use for finch seed, is it finch seed mix with all different types of seed or thistle seed "finches favorate seed" that looks like black little pieces of rice, and where do i get it and do i have to grind it myself, any help would be great, i wanna start tonight!!!!!!

p.s. yeah any health food store has flax meal, its only like 1.50 for a big bag, and its refrigerated, any one know why?

Some people use straight Niger seed (the black rice looking stuff, also called Thistle seed) and some use a combination of Millet and Thistle. My friend's dog just made some jars with Ryche Hawk's mix and used straight Thistle. He has no idea which is better, it's his first time trying something other than whole brown rice.

Ground flax is stored in the fridge because the oil it contains goes bad (rancid) very easily. Cooling it extends the shelf life.
