success on my first grow!

just wanted to share
in the process of my first grow. I've run into some contam issues due to being an impatient noob and fiddling around with colonizing jars, so 5/12 cakes have made it to fruiting
yesterday morning, while birthing a cake of golden teacher, 2 small mushrooms came dislodged from the cake that were growing in vitro that I was unaware of. I set the 2 mushrooms aside and went to work. I decided to give my mushies a test run and ate the little guys at about 3pm.
despite being a small weight of material (I would estimate about 5-6 grams wet), I had a very pleasant and strong level 1 experience that gave me a great indicator of the potency.
I am hooked for sure! thanks to all who helped along the way

Nice. So currently you have the cakes in a fruiting chamber?
-------------------- Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, “What road do I take?” The cat asked, “Where do you want to go?” “I don’t know,” Alice answered. “Then,” said the cat, “it really doesn’t matter, does it?”

that is correct. I have a small rubbermaid container and an aquarium pump, and a few inches of perlite. I mist and fan a few times a day in addition to the pump running every couple of hours
I have one cake in the fruiting chamber displaying aerial mycelium, but the others look fine. its pinning okay but growth is a bit slow overall.

Why is there an aquarium pump? Where is it positioned?
You have an SGFC? Or just perlite in a tub with a tube in there?

the pump is running a hose into a hole in the Rubbermaid. I think this may be a little outdated and am going to build a monotub this weekend
but it still seems strange that only 1 cake is aerial

Congrats on your first grow! It's a great feeling. I'd ditch the pump and get them in a SGFC. It's simple and very reliable. Hope you get many flushes!

I have a soldering iron, and my Rubbermaid is already loaded with perlite. should I just convert my current setup with the iron?

I prefer monotubs. I like to cheese grate my cakes, mix them with coir and use that to fill the bottom of a monotub. Check out my sig, those were all pf cakes.
If you are planning on fruiting cakes, and dont have at least 6, you should go ahead with the SGFC design. SpitballJedi's SGFC Basics Start here.
The air pump to the bottom of the perlite would work in an ideal situation, but 1 hose won't work. What I'm thinking is something like a air hockey table, that can put out air evenly over the surface area of the bottom, then have wet perlite on top of that. See how much work it would be to make that efficient? The SGFC is designed for constant upward airflow through the perlite.

I'm going to go ahead and build a shotgun tonight for the 5 cakes I have going right now
I have two spawn bags on the way that I will build a monotub for while they colonize

What kind of spawn, and what will you use for bulk mix? I'm guessing you don't have a pressure cooker?

its the 5 grain bags from Midwest grow kits. I will spawn using the damon5050 coir tek. I don't have a pressure cooker (yet) and used the jars from Midwest on my current grow.
I know how people feel about kits/premade jars and bags, and I agree but at the time its more feasible for me to use premade stuff, both for time and money's sake.
but after I run a grow with these bags, I'm going to source my own materials and do it right

Why use a flashlight to take a pic, just turn on the light in the room

You may want to invest in a 6500K daylight bulb in that situation. Are you sure that window is providing enough light?

I have one already I could use, but the window lets in plenty of natural light. from my understanding, shrooms don't need a heavy dose of light. they use light schedules to trigger pinning and growth, everything is pinning rather aggressively, I am 90% sure my problem was fresh air exchange.
