Depends. I know a lot of people in construction that make decent money. Hell of a lot better then food industry. If you can fork up loans or money to go to some trade school your pretty set. I just wouldn't pick any trade that really cares about ethics because that would be a hard thing to get around with felonies. Air conditioning is huge. Roofing. Framers. Plumbing. Electrical. Demolition.
In the end your going to have to either be able to really fake drug tests are quit until your employed. Everyone I know who has been in these type of jobs were scared shitless to even blaze. I actually had a friend who has a solid ass job as an iron worker and is part of the union and they randomly tested him and he failed from taking 1 fucking hit. He didn't get fired because they saved his ass but he was put on basically job probation.

Opportunities are endless. The most important thing you can do when it comes to making money is do something that you enjoy to earn your cash.
People that enjoy what they do to earn their money have won the game of life.
Also do not rule out going back to school as a possibility. There are federal grants in place that would make it completely feasible for you to be able to attend college and get some type of degree to further you in finding that dream job.
I would suggest going down to your local community college and taking some assessment test that they offer, talk to their financial aid department and who knows, you may wind up getting paid to go to school like I did.
You are definitely on the right track brother and I wish the best to you.

Idk if I would go that far, but sometimes it's good to take your time and consider your options before you act.

The only advice i can give you is the advice i would take upon myself. If i was out of work and needed a job, i would go to the nearest temp hiring agency fill out the application honestly and take whatever job they had available, then work my way up the ladder from there. Ive done this many times working shitty jobs paying my dues here and there to the agency and what not. It all payd off tho, currently the job i have now is considered hard to get into and has good perks, one of the things that got me in was my work history, what i acquired from each one and just my overall attitude. I might be white but i was in no way privileged, if i didn't wake up every day to go to work i ended up on the streets just like everybody else.

Big Bear said: I do cabling for city, fed, and many other private company (fiber, cat6, etc) and i have to pass background checks for lots of IT companies I do contracts for. I guess San Fran is different though. Also I guess networking and coding are different.
M entire career since before I even graduated highschool has been I.T and I have only had security clearance once. Tons of places don't really care. Its more specific to the company then the industry. If you do security IT work then of course thats going to be an issue. If you work for a financial institution doing sys admin work, it might be an issue.. but most I.T careers don't really care unless they are companies that contract to other companies (like cabling datacenters, and thats more of an insurance thing) or to the government.
The key is to get to the CAREER level stuff, and away from the JOB stuff. the JOB level stuff is where you get treated more like a serial number, with drug tests and background checks and gererally easy hire easy fire scenarios. Once you get to the professional level all that mostly goes out the window.
Anyone on this site should have zero problem passing a drug test. For one, everyone should be smart enough to research here and elsewhere on fake urine. Second, if you want a good job you need to prepare to make sacrifices including quitting your pot habit, etc for however long it takes to get that job you really want or need. If you cant do that then you dont deserve the job anyway.

I'm a felon and I work in restaurant back of the house. And make Damn good money as grill cook. The trick to making good Money in the food industry while still working under the chef and not being one. Is to find a nice 5star restaurant that's either a dinner only venue or a breakfast only spot. One that's really nice. Lie on your app ask for the wages you want and work your ass off.

QFT. Also. When you do find a job, work your ass off and keep yourself looking presentable. If your supervisor can say to his supervisor 'john works his ass off and always looks presentable' then you have 90% of the battle won already.
10% is attitude. Stay positive man.

I think I'm working the "presentable/works his ass off" angle pretty well. I have one of the best attendance records at the place I work. I made a connection at an Asian supermarket to sell ginseng and reishi. I'm also working on getting some samples of various edible species for a high end restaurant interested in some locally grown fungus. Things are lookin' up for ol' phishphan.

Have you looked into being an Uber driver? Assuming your felony isn't driving related you should be set. Work your own hours its almost like your own little business. Pay is decent if you put in at least 40 hours a week and youll make a hell of alot more than fast food.

Driving is probably out right now. A couple of my charges were grand theft, felony eluding, reckless driving.
