Boletes? Porcini? Tylopilus? And some for fun! ID
    #22311160 - 09/29/15 09:49 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hey everyone, you guys have been great so far, here are a few more you could take a stab at. I have a few bolete's and one just for fun for everyone. Like always, sorry for the poor picture quality, and I sure appreciate you taking your time to give these a shot.

All of these were found at the cabin in Eastern Wisconsin, its a mix of Jack and White Pine, Oak, Maple, and a few Birch. Still a little moist up there.

Bolete Edulis?

I guess this one I'm not really sure on, the pore surface was a bit whiter when collected. Its about 4 1/2" tall. Tan cap, white pore surface. I'd guess you'd say the stem is reticulated.

Tylopilus Sp?

This one I'm really going crazy over. This is by far the coolest/prettiest bolete I've found yet this year. It seems to pass the "edibility rules" but more advice would be great.
It has a brown/dark red cap, dark brown pore surface, and a slightly lighter brown stem with what I would suppose are glandular dots. The picture's appear a bit lighter in color than the actual mushroom is. What really struck me is the density/weight of this guy, hes heavy!

Russel's Bolete?

Yellow cap with red/brown dots on it. Found many of these in a small area. Bright yellow pore surface and a yellow stem.

?????? Just a pretty one

This one I just loved and figured maybe some of you would like to take a look at it. If you want to take a shot at an ID, thats great, if not- just try to enjoy.

That's it for today I guess! Again, thanks a lot for everyone's time. Hope you guys get some enjoyment out of the pictures as I have.

Alex

What are the edibility rules?

Well I've heard you are weary of Red/Orangepore surfaces, instant blue bruising, and if these two are sufficient tasting a small sample to see if its bitter. Granted these seem very loose, and they admittedly discard many good edible boletes (bicolor bolete for certain), and what remains should be at least partially edible.

As to the second bolete, I'm now leaning toward Tylopilus Eximinus, the Lilac Brown Bolete. Any thoughts? Suggestions on the first one?

Boletus variipes is my guess as to the first one. Thanks for the reads, and more advice is welcome.

Definitely not. But you're right about the reticulation. Boletes are already difficult to ID to species much of the time but unfortunately these pictures are also unclear making it even more difficult. The last one is an Amanita species
