Why does his agar look like tar? And why does his mycelium look like boils on agar? xD. Nothing like I ever saw

The agar was coloured black with food colouring and the lumps in the middle are agar transfer wedges

The colouring of the agar helps to see whats going on the plate

I am no pro... but plates 4 and 5 look promising to me... they took off pretty quick... give it a day or three and see what your working with.

Ive seen coloured agar before but dang nothing like that xD. Mycelium seems strange to me cuz its growing vertical a lot. Mine stays pretty flat

I think the transfered slants might have been a little big. Reading up people recommend only a grain of rice size transfer.. but we learn. The mycelium has literally covered the transfer agar that's why it looks like a bump and seems to be travelling skyward

Aye me too. I am loving this new hobby. Has got the best fruits of my labour thing going on.
I know right?? I try not to look too much cuz I think the dark is better for the growing mycelium but 2 or 3 times a day I cant help it. That is where guns n roses "patience" tries to help be but I guess I better try to find some online lol.

Cheesie, Looks like you poured that agar a bit too thick. It'll still grow out fine, but you're gonna have to really dig into it to get a wedge out for your transfers.
Pour enough to line the bottom, I'd say about half of what you have there, then PC.

Thanks will do. I noticed I was transferring boulders because of how much agar I had put in

Transfer clean growth from the leading edge of the mycelium. You won't always see threading as it's dependent on genetics (needs to be isolated further) and the nutritional profile of the agar itself.
