Does the Mushroom Control Our Minds?
    #22305026 - 09/28/15 08:32 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I was thinking about this the other day...Maybe by eating it, it alters our thinking to seek out, grow more, and spread the word.  International growth.  I have some 'data' to back this up though.

You have a fungus that recognizes the brains of different ant species and releases its toxins only when it's in it's preferred host..
Zombie Fungus Enslaves Only Its Favorite Ant Brains

A caterpillar that secretes a syrupy liquid, when eaten, controls ants to protect their larvae from attack..
Caterpillar DRUGS ants to enslave them

And science is recognizing that gut bacteria prove that we are what we eat.
Gut Bacteria Control Our Minds To Get The Food They Want

So whats the deal? Are we in too deep as it is?

Those other fungi reproduced by affecting the minds of their hosts thus. Evolution led them to what they are now. The only real consistent behavioral changes that psilocybin seems to induce in people that would be beneficial to the mushroom is that it often instills in people the desire to be less toxic for the sake of the whole planet. However, this seems to be the first time ever that a primate's dispositions might determine the fate of the entire planet, so I don't see how the mushroom could have benefited by controlling us as a host up until this point. There's no evolutionary reason for such a development.

Don't be psilly. If you eat pharmaceutical grade synthetic psilocybin does it make you want to get a degree in chemistry and set up a lab? Of course not.

Im just gonna paraphrase Terence Mckenna on this and say maybe the mushroom knew we would eventually be in the position we are now. And by making us less toxic, in turn, makes it environment more habitable and widespread.
He didnt say that but I think thats what he would have said

The mushroom is life.

And you will become one with everything.
