straw with TONS of hulls

It seems the only straw i can source around here is more like wheat hulls held together with straw. Does anyone else have any experience with wheat hulls? I've already made a few pails and bags and they seem to be okay. Mainly wondering how good hulls are compared to 100% straw when it comes to harvest time.

Hmmmmm, good question. I'm gonna check out my Stamets book for nutritional stats if he has them listed.

He doesnt have Wheat hulls listed but does have Oat hulls listed. Considering they are pretty close as straws I assume the hulls would be similar as well.
Looks like there is about a 0.12 Per ct. increase from straw to the hulls so Ill bet that bump of nitrogen would increase yields.

most growers I know either love it, most hate it. I'm allergic to it. wood pellets and cotton seed hulls are great if you have a steam setup. since there's no mess.

I noticed i have a slight skin alergy to the straw. When i loaded the bale on my roof my arms broke out with a rash. Next time ill be sure to wrap the bale in a tarp or canvas. When i shred and handle the dry straw i wear a respirator.
This is my pre shredded hay but you can see there are tons of smaller hulls. I'd really need a pre shred pic for a better example.

I forgot to mention, one of my concerns is there are seeds, anyone got any tricks for removing them?

Looks fine to me, our straw has plenty of full seed heads and doesn't seem to contaminate too badly maybe 1/20 bags goes a little green before the third flush. We use a hot water soak with extra lime though and lost more when just using the cold water method.

Usually when I would do the soak and agitate it really well, quite a few hulls would sink to the bottom, though I'm not sure if that will be any more than the straw that sinks.
