Habitat: This was found growing on a hard-wood log in a tropical forest
Gills:?
Cap:
Spore print color:Is this needed or even possible with this species? They have been in the fridge in a plastic bag for 2 weeks, with no obvious signs of spores..
Other information: A friend said they he grew up eating these in the Unites States. I tried them, they are bitter when raw, but after boiling for 5 minutes they have an earthy flavor that I really like. They are very chewy, like jerky, or the crust of a really tough bread.

Crazy right? My friend assured with great assurances they were edible. They are good though, really good actually, in a funky way.

Well I don't think there are any poisonous polypores, so at least you got that covered.
I would not advise eating ANY fungi you're not 100% sure of though.
I suggest reading the "true turkey tail test" on Kuo's site, it's rather enlightening on the subject.

I love picking turkey tails, especially the ones that have a kinda grey/blue color to them, those ones looks very cool.
