Today in Magic (the Gathering)
    #22302643 - 09/28/15 12:41 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Hey all you magic players!
I'm sure there are a few of you beside just me.

This thread is dedicated to talking about how does day went as far magic.
Kinda like a like LNC for magic players.
How did you do in draft? Got together to play with friends, how did that go? How'd you do in tournament? Open anything super sweet from packs recently?
Just that typea stuff.

I've been playing since 7th edition when I was a younggin living in Utah.
Since then I've been playing on and off for years at a time,
But recently as I've been more and more involved in the local community I've more and more found myself a daily magic player between drafting Monday, Wednesday, Friday, EDH Saturday and Tuesday and private drafts and EDH on off days, so I decided to make this thread.

Gonna be going to a private Zendikar draft later today me and my friends are putting together with the packs we won from the sealed Zendikar prerelease this weekend.
So that will be a lot of fun drafting Zendikar a full week before everyone else who has to wait till the 2rd to buy packs.
I'll let you guys know how I do in a bit!

Hope this thread sparks some interest.

I missed the prerelease party at our local game shop but I will probably be picking up some packs if the shop owner is willing to let them go early. I haven't played regularly in 15 years but I've been getting back into for the last month or so.

Nice! I highly doubly they will let them go early but you never know!
I'm really good friends with the people at my local shop and they wouldn't even let me get a booster box before the 2nd.

What brought you back?

Oddly enough a yard sale... I bought a bunch of Warhammer stuff and about 500 magic cards so I am fully committed to playing both and have started gathering masses of cards and army miniatures.

I just started playing this actually. I moved out into the country recently, like way out but, my son just started playing w his friends and it's something we can do when he's here.

He's been kicking my ass tho so I stopped by a shop today and bought some fliers to get after him. I'm not a big gaming guy but I am a nerd so collecting the cards and building decks has def peaked my interest.

Nice! I was extreamly lucky years back at a garage sale when I scored over 1000 alpha-ice age cards for $100.

What type of deck is your son running?
I might be able to give you some tips on how to counter him. :hehe:

I had a pretty good time last night private drafting Battle for Zendikar!

I met some friends at Dungeons and drafts, a local DnD bar and played a 5 round draft for a pool of 20 packs.

At first it looked like I was gonna go green black because I pulled a blood god pack one, but very quickly I realized black wasn't gonna be an option because everyone else was pulling all the black cards so I hard switched into drafting a blue red.
I managed to throw togather a pretty decent deck that did a bunch of passive direct damage and very good control plus this card that gave me an extra turn I got to use almost very game, so I ended up going 3-2 and winning 4 packs.

It was my wife Liliths first time drafting and she actually dis pretty well for herself based off how good all my friends are.
She only went 1-4 but drafting takes a while to get used to and she had fun.

Then later today my friend is hosting some EDH, so I'll probably be over there tonight for a good 8 hours lol.

Hmmm to be honest blue green isn't a deck I come up against too often.

But if he's playing it right he probably has tons of mana ramp into really big high cost green creatures and green spells to pump those creature up.
And a lot of blue control in there like counter spells and stuff that will bounce things back to your hand, and probably some draw effects.

I'd say that were onto something with discards. Discard cards would be really useful because hot having a hand in a green/blue deck really throws a wrench into thing and you wanna make sure he has as few counterspells to throw at you as possible.
If also look into throwing in as many kill cards as you such as "murder" or "heros downfall." To kill any fatties he brings out to the field.

He'll probably have quite a few blue flyers in there to respond to the flyer you got yesterday.
Blue usually controls the air and there aren't too many big flyers in black or red besides dragon, but I might look into picking up a vampire nighthawk or two.

And just look to be as aggressive as you can early on because his deck will take a few turns to really get going and red has a very quick start so try to get him down as far down as you can before he reached turn 5 when his deck should start picking up steam.

yeah you're p spot on w his deck. I stopped by this gaming store that had boxes and boxes of cards today so I picked up chandra's ignition, blazing hellhound and touch of moonglove which could be a powerful combo, maybe. Also typhoid rat for death touch and damn I forget but another cheap flying guy with lifelink.

I didn't pull any fetch lands at the prerelease but I'm buying 5 booster boxes today so fingers crossed.
How'd you do? Allies are super strong. I went 3-1-1 with my black/white ally deck at pre-release.
What promo did you get? I got a felidar sovereign which is always great.
And if you don't mind asking how many lands did you play with?
Because you should really never be getting mana screwed at drafts/events.
General rule of thumb for them is 17 lands in a 40 card deck, never keep unless you have at least 3 lands but don't mul past 5.
And that new scry rule is your friend.

I was out at my friends playing EDH until 4:30 in the morning both Tuesday and Wednessday night.

Then today Battle for Zendikar is officially released!
My wife and I are sitting on 10 booster boxes right now. (7 mine, 3 hers)

Right now we are just sitting at the Haunted Game Cafe drinking chia tea with some friends cracking pack after pack after pack.
Already pulled two plains walkers and I havn't even finished my first booster box yet, but no fetch lands yet.

I might put togather a private draft tonight at Friday night magic with one of my unopened booster boxes, but I'd seriously kick myself if someone pulled one of those lands from the box.

I probably didn't shuffle well enough

elder dragon highlander. i think most people call it commander now. It's a game play variation. You build a deck of 100 cards, choosing a legendary creature as your commander. Your deck can only contain cards of colors that your commander has and no 2 cards with the same name. you start with 40 life. your commander starts in the "command zone" and can be cast like a normal creature. every subsequent cast from the command zone costs (2) more.

Super fun game to play if you have a shit ton of old cards sitting around. Meant to be more of a casual game play experience instead of competitive focusing more on creative duck building.

for more info i would deff just google it, that's just what i could think of off the top of my head and might not be %100 accurate.

What did you guys pay for your Booster Boxes? I am planning to buy one but my local shop is hit and miss on their pricing so I'd like to see what others are paying.

They want $120 a box (36 booster packs). Is this the same thing you have all been buying?

I bought mine for about $120 each aswell.

I've been told all the retailers are selling both booster boxes as well as fat packs for $10 extra. ($60 fat packs)
And I was also led to believe that this was the retailers choice and Wizards of the Coast is not responsible.

What EDH decks are you guys currently using?
I've been enjoying using my Oona, Teysa, and Sheoldred decks and my wife has been enjoying kicking my ass with her Rubinia and kruphix decks.

Hit me up. If I don't find one in the next few days I'll just buy one off Amazon but I'd rather hook up a shroomerite with some cash.

hey i used to play years ago, and theres a local card/comic shop near me that hosts matches and tournaments.
Any suggestions on getting started?
i would pretty much have to learn from scratch, but know the basics and play hearthstone.
is there a cheap starters pack? ive seen collections of 1000 cards on ebay for around $20 and was thinking about giving it a shot.

You can buy intro decks prebuilt for about $10-15 at a game shop or even Walmart. They aren't the strongest decks but are great for learning and you can build from them. If you want something more powerful but still comes ready to play spring the $25 for an Event Deck.

Online lots are good if you have friends who play but a lot of those cards are older and there are age limits on what you can play in store tournaments so it can be a gamble.

damn so glad i found this thread. I play MTG in a group of 4-6 friends every weekend. We play casual vintage format, which is really fun. Very few rules beyond that, the main one being that you cant go infinite - anything that would stops at 1. Oh also you cant choose your deck for any given game, you have to roll for it - the only exception is if you have a new deck. weve been playing for a few years now, I still use decks that I built over 20 years ago, when I was like 12 years old.

If anyone uses http://tappedout.net/ go on there and add me as a friend. I have about 30 decks - they are exactly the decks I own IRL. Heres my profile: http://tappedout.net/users/mickalopagus/

Didnt do the last release tournament. Jumped in on Origins though, and it was pretty fun.

Last week was cool, tried out a budget shapeshifter deck that I have been trying to piece together. I went 2/3 (could have gone 3/3 but I didnt want to win them all hehe)

heres the deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/shapeshifter-deck-3/

Then played played a lot of star format as there were 5 of us, and did ok. We also have a solo option for 5 player, where there are two teams of two, and a solo player. the solo player gets to choose the deck, whereas everyone else has to roll. Also, solo player is 'Invisible' for the first 4 turns. The player is only visible should he/she interact with the board somehow, such as attacking a player, or playing a wipe card, in which case the player(s) affected can defend themselves.

Anyways... I decided to go solo and played a Jokulhaups deck which worked for the first time ever. Was lucky in that by the time I was visible, the two teams had already begun fighting each other and forgot about me, which is what usually happens.  By turn 9 or 10 one team had dominated the other, so naturally I became their focus. The turn before I was going to die to a massive attack I drew my 6th land which allowed me to play Jokulhaups. The turn after that my two greater gargadons came out of suspend and into play, and I killed the remaining two opponenents, who were both saying 'Whhhhhhhat the fuck just happened here???'

Was my highlight of the day  Heres the deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/the-lord-of-the-rings-deck/

Re: Today in Magic (the Gathering) [Re: ManianFH]
    #22873289 - 02/06/16 10:46 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

today was pretty fun, there were 3 of us, which is always a more difficult game than 2v2, 5 player, or 6 player. 3 way is always hard because two players will get in a fight, allowing the third to build and clean house once the feud ends. the game is very difficult when it comes to maintaining objective strategy, versus others.

anyways we all split wins and losses pretty evenly. my two most memorable wins were with a pact of negation deck I have, one of if not my most versatile deck among the bunch. I got this combo out with Solemn Simulacrum, Gift of Immortality, and Blasting Station, where I was sacrificing my creature with blasting station, only to have him come back.  So every players turn I was dropping a land and getting a free card. It took about 4 full turns of this happening before my deck was completely thinned out. I eventually cast 2 pact of the titans and a platinum angel to win the game pretty easily.

Another great game was with my gravedigger deck - both my opponents started the game land strapped, which allowed me to cast blood pet>dark ritual>buried alive>victimize - all with 0 resistance. By turn 3 I had Inkwell Leviathan and Razia, Boros Archangel, both WRECKING FACE... by turn 5 both my opponents were dead, the game lasted all of 3 minutes. Didnt even have to use Iona... haha.

First game was pretty funny too, I played my extort deck, and one of my opponents happened to be playing some black hate deck that made it so only my creatures couldnt attack or block. Suddenly I became instant focus, since my creatures couldnt do shit, but I kept alive on extort spells long enough to get necropotence and bloodchief ascension out there. Then, at 5 life left I cast Gray Merchant of Asphodel, both opponents lose 7, I gain 14... Both my opponents sigh... Still the focus they both attack me, back down to 5, next turn, Gray Merchant of Asphodel... you both lose 9, I gain 18..  bwahahhahaha.  at this point one opponent just gives up on attacking me, like some kind of learned helplessness took over and he just ends his turn. They have 1, and 2 life, and are one extort spell from death. My bloodshief ascension is active with 3 counters, so I cast tyrant's choice... they either die from losing 4 life or sac a creature each... they choose sac a creature... asension hits them for 2 each and they both die hahahaha.

even against black hate... just wrecked it!

SO just sold some cards out of old decks that i dont or barely use to make This deck!. Have been playtesting it for like a month and couldnt take it anymore, its so fucking fun!!

Its mainly built for group play - our group. Its very confusing to play against because killing the creatures negatively affects the opponent. But letting them live allows me to kill them, which will be more destructive. Damned if you do damned if you dont kind of deck . Wont have it this weekend but hopefully for next.

NICE!!! Played this deck again in a STAR game (5 players, 2 allies). Didnt quite want to play it because it is not very ally friendly with a bunch of board wipe cards.. but what you roll..

Anyways both my allies eventually got knocked out of the game, leaving me with two opponents. Both had a shitload of resources, creatures, lands, cards. I had a few tokens hanging out, a suspended gargadon, and a bunch of lands. Coercive portal was letting me draw two cards a turn, and my opponents werent about to vote to have it destroy all creatures instead. SO finally they wiped out all of my creatures - I had two life left (they had 30 and 20 life) and I had one turn left before death - drew overmaster and Jokulhaups. Played overmaster, drew another gargadon, put it out, then played Jokulhaups.

My opponents were stunned. WHAT?? I then sacced all my lands to remove suspend counters from my Gargadons in response to Jokulhaups, and next turn I had a 9/7 creature wreaking HAVOC on an empty board. Took out the player with 20 life first, and eventually the other guy. It felt SO good!!! SO SOS SO SOS SO GOOD Haha. There was no way they were supposed to lose that game, in their minds it was already over, but yeah that just happened

OH another cool game, another STAR format. Was playing this shapeshifter deck, against an URZA lands based deck that focused around Platinum Angel, and Platinum Empirion. If you dont know what they do, they made it so you cant lose the game, and your life total unable to change, respectively.

So I had the early attack on this URZA opponent (my other opponent was busy fighting with allies). I had two 4/4 griffin riders buffed by Shapesharer, and by turn 4 or 5 he was down to 4 life. He got out 4/4 Platinum Angel (cant lose the game) but I attacked the next turn with both creatures anyways, knowing he couldnt block otherwise hed lose the game when Angel died. So his life went to -4, but he cant lose the game still.

Next turn he brought out platinum emperion (life total cant change), and put haste on him, and attacked me with both creatures, and a few others for like 18 damage. In response I used Shapesharers ability to become a copy of Platinum emperion (my life total cant change)... he laughed and was like oh yeah that was useless.

A couple turns later I had enough lands to cast a mirrorweave (all creatures turn into target creature) I had been holding. The same opponent cast Ugin, the spirit dragon - and tried to use its 0 ability ([-X]: Exile each permanent with converted mana cost X or less that's one or more colors. ) to wipe the board which easily wouldve won him the game. In response I cast mirrorweave, turning all creatures into platinum emperion. As a result, his platinum angel changed as well, and he died instantly at -4 life. That changeling deck is fucking awesome!!!

Re: Today in Magic (the Gathering) [Re: ManianFH]
    #22957214 - 02/28/16 11:34 PM (7 years, 10 months ago)

Today was great in magic. Well, kinda great. Had a new deck that went 0-2, and a couple other decks that lost by literally 1 turn! But whatever thats how it goes. Cool thing was that we made a new multiplayer format that is really fun. Really, really fun... Its called 'Attack In-between' and pretty much follows these rules:

3 Player:

No player has a life total. Instead in-between each player is a token with X amount of life, 20 for example. In 3 player this leaves each player with two Ally life totals, which they must protect, and one Enemy life total which they must reduce to 0. The first player to reduce his Enemy token to 0 life wins the game.

You opponents are simultaneously your allies in that each opponent shares a life token that they want to protect with you. You can cast spells that interact with anything you opponents control, with the exception to life total. Any cards that interact with life totals are redirected at the appropriate life tokens. If you have a spell or ability that would gain you life, you may direct it at only one token. The same applies for cards that would allow you to not be able to lose the game, or not have a changing life total. Both allies may block for a token during a players attack phase, as well as cast spells to protect the token. When you are attacking a token, any effects that would force one opponent to interact must force only one opponent to interact, where cards that force opponents to interact, force both opponents to interact.

Any win the game card abilities win the game.

When a players library has no more cards in it, that player is removed from the game, but that players two ally tokens remain at their life total (able to be protected by neighboring players) OR that player continues to play without drawing cards, but is able to use the cards and permanents he controls OR that player shuffles his graveyard into his library.

5 player

In 5 player you have 3 enemy life totals and two ally life totals. In order to win you must reduce all 3 enemy life totals to 0 while protecting both of your ally life totals.

Players can share victories if both players enemy life totals are all simultaneously reduced to 0, while they share a protected ally life total.

If a players ally life totals are both reduced to 0, he can no longer interact with the game.

Notes and other rules:

It might be worth limiting cards that affect multiple opponents life totals, such as exsanguinate, extort, etc as these cards may be too powerful for the format. Cards that affect permanents would remain unchanged, such as each opponent sacrifices a creature. However a card that forces all opponents to lose X life should only force one token to lose life. Life gained from such an ability would be given to only one ally token.

A player can only protect ally life tokens. This means a player cannot counter a neighbors spell that would affect an enemy token. That is the responsibility of that tokens allies only.

Global effects interact with the entire board

a couple other rules we ran across, especially in 5 player.

1. Everyone is your potential opponent. You can still attack the guy next to you - say if he has a planeswalker you want to get rid of, kill his shit, make him discard cards, etc.... the only real bond you two share is that you both want to protect the same life token. Cards that say each opponent discards a card, etc... affect even your nearest neighbors.

2. Cards that force opponents to take damage without directing at a target allows an opponent who also happens to be your ally to distribute that damage to a token you two share. This was hotly debated tonight, but it was decided best to keep it that you as the recipient of such a spell gets to choose where it goes to keep the game more political. This makes you really think before you cast cards like that because it can adversely affect your lifetotal.

there will be some other issues that come up im sure, but it was really fun - makes it harder for players to be kicked out of a game - say if they get a slow draw to start, because they have two life totals that need to be dropped, and other allies may have resources they dont, that protect the life totals, essentially keeping them in the game. It is much more strategic this way, and offers strange new opportunities to create alliances.

I also split up half my decks into two groups - 'Do' decks, and 'Dont' decks. So DO decks are those that are built on getting stuff done, such as getting out creatures, setting up combinations to damage opponenets etc,,, without much regard for what my opponent is doing. DONT decks are all about restricting what my opponents do, to win the game. I read that 'dont' decks are more aggravating in general for group play, and I wanted to create a more friendly playing environment. So I played only 'Do' decks tonight, and definitely noticed a difference in how people responded to my decks. They werent bummed or pissed off like I see sometimes - for instance, taking every creature they bring out, using it against them,, then sacrificing it --- which can be pretty aggravating. Instead it was bum rush decks, and more brute force. They still got to play their combos and decks too, which was more fun for everyone.

I dare say that I will stop playing the 'dont' decks to make people happier - because those decks are REALLY fun to play... but the DO's are as well, and I won about as many as I lost... so it was all cool.

so yeah fun day

had an interesting week in magic - we played attack inbetween format pretty much all day, which completely changes how effective some decks are versus others. I used my newest deck politics and fire and it rendered my opponents helpless, as no matter what they did they took damage, which lowered the life total I was trying to destroy. It was too powerful, so I guess itll have to be used for other formats.

Used an all cat deck - Kitteh, and wrecked face with Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and Umezawa's Jitte in 2v2. Also used a few token decks - thallids and insects - both of which RUINED both opponents once Coat of Arms came out. So much fun .

Today in magic!

Was a fun day. 6 of us showed up and almost everyone brought food. We had a crock pot, smoker, and the BBQ going. There were a lot of good moments. The day started out like this.

2v2 - my opponent had an elf deck and was able to get this 24/24 elf creature out on turn 4. We were dead turn 5. I didnt even know what hit us, and silently accepted our defeat. A few games later we had 5 players, and were playing star format. I tripled up on notorious throng by luck of the draw and caught both of my opponents without any blockers with 4 back to back turns. Turn 1, 3 damage, turn 2, 6 damage, turn 3, 12 damage, turn 4, 24 damage - game over. People were like ---- whaaaat the fuck just happened? I felt redeemed for the 24/24 elf earlier haha.

Was playing my brother throughout the day, who has been using locus lands a lot - half our play group has turned to locus/urza's/quick mana lands. So I have been splashing land destruct throughout my decks, and it finally caught up with them. Played sowing salt on a blue/white non-basic, the only blue source my bro had, and he sat the rest of the game watching as my partner and I dismantled his team. Later on he played urza's and was locked out due to a ghost quarter. Later still, he was playing Locus lands for Eldrazi, and I shut him down with contaminated ground and blight. After that game hed had enough and was talking about getting his old school land-destruct deck back in the rotation. I shut him down the game after by destroying his sol ring, and mid game he scooped his cards and quit for the night.

Its kind of funny with our group. Everyone has a different personality. Everyone is super fun to play with, but we all have our idiosyncrasies when shitty things happen. My brother gets really bitchy when someone is causing him to be unable to enact his plan and complain about how unfair he has it. One of our friends will just sink into chaos and start casting wipe cards or whatever he can to do the most damage to the board, with no regard for strategy. I will become focused on whoever I think has 'wronged' me, and use my resources to take them out, regardless of winning or losing the game. Another friend will just swan dive mid game once he knows he doesnt have a chance to win. Another friend will start complaining about commander cards. And so on. It is a really funny thing to watch. People would say well that doesnt sound fun why the fuck would you even play? But it is fun - I just try and stay mindful of what others are going through, and have some empathy - and try to remember when Im upset in a game to just relax and focus on something else. We all get pissed from time to time playing but for the most part we all enjoy kicking each others asses, and can accept even the tough losses

What else happened - built my buddy a deck: 86'd, named after its cost. It playtested really well, but my buddy had problems figuring it out with his first exposure today. There were a few games he shouldve won but just didnt play the cards right - but hell get the hang of it. Hes the one who gets chaotic, which is why I put a bunch of board wipes in there, and a bit of land destruction too... Well Armageddon - I guess thats a whole fucking lot of land destruction hahaha.

Any other memorable games tonight? We had one 3v3 where we kicked ass the entire game and got them down to 2 life. Then my brother somehow got this 44/44 creature, made it unblockable, and killed us at more than full health. We were shocked but I had to give him credit for such a comeback. We had another game where we shouldve gotten stomped as my opponents had all these creatures. But then I comboed Mimic Vat and Shriekmaw, and turn after turn used its ETB ability to clear their creatures, while my ally kept us safe with story circle. Was one of those games we shouldnt have won, but somehow did.  Also did a classic beatdown with my Spider deck. Just a cheap ass green spider deck but they wreck face when paired with the right cards.

Anyways, yeah. Good day in Magic

Glad to see this thread has lived on in my absence.

I've been tempted to get into some legacy play but my playgroup pretty much refuses to play anything aside from EDH, which I'm totally fine with because EDH is much more open ended and stays fresh much longer. But it might be nice to find somewthing to do with my play set of "Force of Will"s.

Do you have much experience with EDH/commander?
Because if not all I can say is it's an absolute game changer.
100 card singleton with cards from alpha to shadows over Innistrad with a very small ban list and lots of potential for political multiplayer shinanagins.

I'm about to test out my new Liliana flip walker commander deck tonight, I'll post tomorrow with some results.

I realised its hard to get 15 cards in one single shot, but the coolest looking ones are Diabolical Revelation, Rain of Blades, and Smelt.

They all got this M13 logo on the cards, does that mean Magic2013, when the cards were made? Does that mean these cards are obsolete? Idk.

M13 means they came out in the 2013 Core set.
So yea, they are no longer in the standard rotation,
but they are still legal in modern and commander,
But those gametype are just a lot less played than standard.

They can still be played. I have cards from the first couple of releases back in the 90's but the can't be used in certain official tournament play where cards are limited to the last 5 releases.

they are far from useless my good shroomerite! We play vintage, and just about anything goes. Furthermore just about all sets have cards of value regardless of their age - sometimes to their benefit. 13 had some good shit, so yeah post up the goldz you got

Thank you for making this thread Sara  - we are so into MTG it boggles my wifes mind hehe. Im still hopeful that shell just say fuckit and ask to play with us one day - in fact that would be like my dream coming to life! In answer to your question, our group has messed around with EDH but for some reason it didnt stick, everyone was happier with Vintage/60card. Weve found ways to keep it interesting, like experimenting with budget deck tournaments, the attack inbetween format explained earlier, etc..

SO made 3 new decks this week. Finally got into the dredge mechanic and made the deck for this weekend. If you dont know dredge... so fucking awesome!!! dont know how fun it will be to play against, I tried to limit its strength for the sake of being casual. well see what happens.

Also made another deck around the new card Triskaidekaphobia. Pretty much get your opponent to 13 life with that card out and you win upon your upkeep. So budget, cost like $12 to make . Then made one more based around Hex Parasite - cant wait to unleash it!!! will post results on monday hehe.

Turns out there a card/comic/hobby shop right down the street from me that has weekly Friday night magic tournaments.

I almost took the plunge with a $15 starter pack but i got high and lazy and just bought $10 worth of hearthstone packs.

Oh well theres always next Friday for a chance to be social and stuff.

Does anyone know the average age range for these sorts of things?

I don't wanna be a creepy 28 year old stoner playing against (and probably getting my ass kicked by) a bunch of 10 year olds.

From what I understand starter decks are generally shitty, so where should i go from there in terms of buying more cards?

I think I want to look up a pre built deck, buy a fatpack or bunch of boosters and then just buy singles for whatever else I need.

check out tapped out.net (i think .net).... everyone, including me, submits their decks online - its kind of a cool resource for people looking for deck ideas, or for ways to improve what theyve got. The age range for FNM can vary, anywhere from 16-50, ive seen it all. everyone is pretty cool regardless, and its a good way to win a few packs if you build a good deck. Hint for having a competitive deck, stock up on as much creature removal as you can (in the form of damage spells or kills spells), as well as a good range of creatures of your own, a bunch of weenies, several mid-range creatures, and 1-2 beefers.

So here are the three decks I made over the weekend:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/dredgeridoo/

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/triskaidederpdiderp/

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sexy-hexy-1/

Dredge did exactly what it was supposed to, quickly got zombies out, and soon after that giant ass creatures via Dread Return. Dredge as a mechanic is the most consistent I have ever seen. It is incredible how well it works despite having oodles of dead cards lying around. That deck is badass. People caught onto it as a mechanic pretty quickly too, and didnt have too many problems with it being overpowered - I have worked hard to limit its power actually.

Triskadecawhatever - was a fun deck to play but didnt get too many chances to mess with it. I think in the right setting it could be hilarious. In the wrong setting it is utterly ineffective as a deck. Definitely for fun casual purposes.

Fun with counters was the strongest of the three, which surprised me being compared with dredge. Came out with Geralf's messenger, then got his combo pieces going with Ashmouth Demon and Hex Parasite. It seemed like every card had a purpose. I dominated a 3 person game even as the target pretty much the entire game. My opponents were overwhelmed.

building 2 new decks right now. Found an old birds of paradise (unlimited) worth like $60, which can afford a few budget builds. The first one ive been wanting to build for a long time, and revolves around giving shitty creatures to your opponent. such as:

and http://a4.res.cloudinary.com/csicdn/image/upload/c_pad,h_300,w_300/v1/Images/Products/mtg%20art/Mirrodin/full/Rust%20Elemental.jpg

this is done via

and

then i proceed to take my opponents good creatures with dash cards that interact with confusion in the ranks. another finisher is to get and kill it to trigger endless whispers FTW...

the deck is janky as fuck and pretty much loses without confusion out there. still should be fun to mess around with . Next deck is purely a support deck for multiplayer. I put up a few walls to protect myself, then buff the fuck out of my teammates creatures, protect them, make them unblockable, etc... should be fun as well.

So the confusion in the ranks deck is funny as hell. I brought out Bronze Bombshell and my teammate was like WTF is that creature why would you have that. Then I used Bazaar Trader to give it to my opponent - Insta BOOM! And my teammate was like oh LOL. I also got to give Rust Elemental away which had my opponent laughing saying WTF why would anyone make a card like this?? It caused utter chaos in the game as 4 people were trading creatures all over the place. We ended up losing but everyone said the deck was great, which makes me happy. Once it really works they probably wont like it as much.

The help your teammate deck worked out well too. Only got to play it 1v1, and went 1 and 1. Heres that deck BTW. It was fun and im sure will be more fun once I get a good teammate. Am working on a third deck, and probably my last for a while - a ninja deck that uses the mechanic Ninjustsu. It kind of sucks, and is kind of expensive. I was going to make it for a friend but it ended up being way too expensive for him so I was like fuckit ill buy the thing. In playtesting it barely beats my opponents, so I could only imagine in 2v2 or multiplayer its just going to get its ass kicked. But really you never know till its in battle so well see. But I will say it is fun as FUCK to play!!

The ninja deck and bronze bombshell deck are still private, as my playgroup hasnt seen either of them at their full potential, but ill post them up maybe after next week

played for like 15 hours last yesterday. it was amazing. did ok for the first half of the night and then finished strong with 14 straight wins. unveiled a Ninja deck which went 3-0, did WAY better than I expected it to. People had no answer for it. One of those games we had 7 players so we did 2 teams of 3, and 1 solo person, who was invisible for 6 turns. After that, hes fair game. Usually the solo guy doesnt fair well in 5 player format but I signed up for it and decided on the ninja deck. It was anyones game until I attacked an opponent with

he had one card in his hand

it was funny because he didnt understand I just got to keep his card, and that drove him insane. he kept saying ''thats bullshit man!! you cant play that card!!" and everyone was like ummm yeah i think he can. i chose a color that nerfed both teams and proceeded to win solo against 6 people

at the end of the night though every deck was working, even my bad ones. just got the right draws and/or the right teammates. my deck devoted to helping my teammate out worked like a charm. I protected his creatures, beefed his creatures, countered spells that targeted him, and he just wrecked face. fun times.

been playing a lot lately. Played the last two days, 1v1 against different friends. Only played ninja once in that time and it won, 4-0 to date. My best streak with a new deck is 6-0, that was this deck - pretty much an enchantment deck that relies on board wipes and

to win. There are other wincons but thats the big one. When it first unveiled people were caught off guard, hence the streak. After people caught on to the strategy it evened out. So am hoping that ninja can beat the streak of 6 but its pretty hard to do now, peoples decks have gotten really good. Even still, when I played it against my buddy today it wasnt even close, just dominated him, so well see.

Another deck that has done really well lately, by which I mean complete beatdown has been my rogue deck

The MVP of the deck has been . With shroud it can often sit out there and wait for the right opportunity to attack. The strategy of the deck is to get a few card drawers out there, then use any number of cards to either tap my opponents creatures or to just make my dudes unblockable. They hit, I draw 4-5 cards, which allows me to rinse and repeat. As soon as I draw its game over. Today the deck came out so fucking strong I didnt even play the right cards - i dont want people to learn to hate the deck :smirk:

Bleh. Ninja deck is 5-1. Lost the last game this afternoon. Teammate got a bad draw and I couldnt pick up the slack for both of us. Might have had a missed play or two, which could have helped, but I dont think wouldve done much without some serious help. Oh well, cant win them all.

My rogue deck kicked ass as usual though. Again, was so strong that I intentionally had to hold back cards to not bum people out haha. But then just said fuckit I dont wanna torture people, played Cyclonic Rift FTW. Was a good day of games overall. Probably went 13-5 or so. Mowed on some killer tri tip that my buddy bought. This next week is gonna kick ass for magic with the release of the Masters set. 4 of us went in on a box at $240. One good card will pay for my share, and getting 9 packs there is a chance it could pay off . Am hoping for a foil Force of Will hehe.

Anyone here do Eternal Masters? 4 of us went in on a box and are doing a tournament with the cards tomorrow. Each of us will get 6 packs. Should be fun, hope I get a valuable card.

Theres only one shop drafting eternal masters in town so I've been forced to head down to Denver to draft it, but I've hat a lot o fun with it.
As someone who already has access to basically every old card I'd want I'm not very concerned with trying to pull out any value,
It's mostly just hella fun drafting cards from my childhood , plus a foil mama crypt would be sexy AF.

Gotta say I'm a little disappointed you don'et have any Oonas Blackguards in your rogue deck,
I realize it's monoblue, but IMO that cards an auto include in any rogue tribal, but who knows that could just be my playstyle.
(Resource disruption and card advantage)

I'll post some deck lists later when I've got more time to fully nerd out about them.

Oh cool please do!!. I love checking out other peoples decks and trying to get a feel for their twisted plans for board domination! Thanks for the suggestions also.. I totally contemplated blueblack when the rogue deck was first made - cant remeber why I didn't, but dont have any regrets, it definitely tops the tribal decks I own, maybe second only to insects -or ninjas if you count that as a tribal.

Speaking of Ninjas is now 6-1. Its so fun to play, was gonna build it for a friend who didnt want to pay the money, and am SO glad he decided not to. It might be my favorite deck of all time.

Oh yeah the draft was pretty cool. So there were 4 of us - 6 packs each. I got a foil Brainstorm, Enlightened tutor, sneak attack, Ichorid, and Mother of runes. All those cards together are worth more than the $65 I paid, so its a win haha. Was fun. Went 2-1 in our tournament but had to stop when others got there and wanted to play with normal decks.

My brother got a Jace, and some other $30 card, so he came out way ahead. My other buddy pulled a wasteland which paid for the whole thing. For me it was about pulling good cards haha, and it paid off enough. Needed the Ichorid

Here's the 60 card deck I've been playing around with recently,
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/loam-depths-smallpoxer/
I've actually won the two of the three legacy tournaments I've played with it and placed in the top three  the other time.

It's a pretty simple pox prison control deck I got the idea for when making my Liliana EDH deck.
Basic game plan is to disrupt your opponents resources as fast as possible be it their land or hand.
Most games I'm able to drain their handsize down to zero by turn three and start focusing on locking them out of mana with Smallpox, Sinkhole, and Strip Mine.
After that tutor up your combo pieces for with Crop Rotation or Expedition Map and release the kraken! (Thespian's Stage + Dark Depths)
If Lage somehow gets exiled just use Life from the Loam to fetch back your Dark Depths and Thespian's Stage from your graveyard.
And if by some strange chance you get locked out of the Depths combo the Mishra's Fictorys are in there for a second (very solid) win condition.

*Stripmine obviously needs to be replaced with wasteland to make it legal for legacy play.

Greeting!
Good to see anybody of local community! Especially if your a fan of Magic The Gathering!
I am much of a nooby to mtg. I bought my first cards When Khans of Tarkir was released. I have not played a whole lot until this previous year, 2016.
I have played Modern, Commander, and Two headed Giant. Playing commander is usually the preferred game at the place I play at. I have played a couple few decks in the mean time. Most recently I invested in Ezuri Claw of Progress promo for about $30.00 I like it. I am putting about 15 maybe 20 cards of my own into it. I need to pick a few of those us still. Cards like Oracle of Mul Daya, or Mul Daya Channelers. Its my first Token Creature deck.

As far as the games have went since I have been playing commander. Not so well. Recently it went better playing a green blue Token deck. I hope to post more; about my future games and Drafts. As the year progresses and I get better at playing the cards. I will share my experience.

Last month I bought a box Khans of Tarkir, I also bought a box of Shadows Over Innistrad. In khans I pulled two Lands, Polluted delta, and BloodStained Mire. One WingMate roc. Hooded Hydra. Zurgo helm smasher(amazing card) Sarkan the Dragonspeaker Planeswalker. I pulled one foil See the Unwritten and one normal See the Unwritten. It was a worthy box. From Shadows Over Innistrad I pulled two planeswalkers, Sorin Grim nemisis, and Nahiri the Harbringer, Foil ArchAngel Acycyn, Wolf of Devils Breach, Mindwrack Demon. I would say that these cards made me very happy.

I play every Friday night at the local Store. When I complete more decks and get more cards I will try and update how its going! I love hearing stories and sharing the magic experience! Good Day!

welcome man! glad to have more magic players on here. Keep it up with the FNM that stuff is great. We just had a store open near us that does thursday night sealed standards - 6 packs, and 1 pack per win, for $15. up to 9 packs for $15 and a good time, man, that is just awesome! Anyways, yeah youll get there if you keep playing, especially in that kind of environment. Card shops always have more competetive players than on a kitchen table somewhere.

Keep us updated with your stores, and share some Tappedout decks if you put them together.

I've been having a lot of fun building super funny game breaking decks recently, this is my latest brain baby.

Mono-Black Apostle Storm

Commander:
Sidisi, Undead Vizier

Main deck:
Shadowborn Apostle x58
Rune-Scar Demon x1
Thrumming Stone X1
Tendrils of Agony x1
Sol Ringx1
Mana Crypt x1
Swamp x37

This deck is very consistently pulls off super hilarious turn 6 wins, let me show you how.

The deck is based off three main cards, Shadowborn Apostle, Thumming Stone, and Tendrils of Agony.

First things first, just wait until turn 5 until you can cast Sidisi, your commander, or turn three with Sol ring or Mana Crypt.
Have Sidisi exploit herself when she enters tutoring for a Thrumming Stone.
Cast Thrumming stone.
Them wait until you have six mana to cast a Shadowborn Apostle triggering Ripple from the Thrumming Stone.
This should cause a chain reaction casting all 58 Apostles from your deck this turn.
With five mana left use one for the Apostles activated ability to tutor for a Rune-Scar Demon.
Rune-Scar enters and tutors for Tendrils of Agony.
Use the reminding four mana to cast 59 Tendrils of Agony because of storm.
Deal 118 damage and gain 118 life.
Win
