A sadhu spent most of his time in a hillside cave practicing deep meditation. He avoided all mental excitation--no broads or alki, no tobacco or hash. He lived on a little milk and honey, donated by someone in the city below, from which he made a light meal in the morning and once finished with that he sat down to meditate and didn't come out of his peaceful trance until long after dark. This is how he lived. No distractions, no disturbance. Nothing but silence and tranquility all the days of his life.
One morning his guru came up the hill to visit him. He found the sadhu in his cave sunk deep in peaceful meditation. The guru stood looking at him for a while and then suddenly seized him by his long yogic hair and started to drag him out of the cave and down the hillside toward the city. The poor sadhu was completely shook up. He tried to get loose but the guru, who was built like George Foreman, whipped him around like a rag doll and kept on down the hill headed for the marketplace.
When they got to the market they stood there in the center of the raging din--motorcycles roaring, trucks rumbling, cows mooing, dogs barking, sheep baa-ing, cats yowling, parrots screeching, fish wives and concessionaries of every description hawking their wares. The sadhu had utterly lost it by now, had pissed his pants and begun whining like a lost puppy. The guru slapped him up side his head, grabbed him by the shoulders and shouted in his face:""What hasn't changed? What hasn't changed?"

Reminds me of Rumi: "how will we become polished if every rub irritates us?"
You pass.
