Wow, really? I went there, like, 6 months ago, and it wasn't crowded at all, except at the selling point. We could all sit on the couches, and the toilets where free.
And I like places where it's filled with tourists... keeps the Dutch out

Bulldog has decent bud but is filled with tourists just looking to get off their ass. I personally found it annoying having to overhear everybody say how "messed up" they were. It's like talking about food while eating. Just sit there and enjoy whatever it is your doing. IMO it seemed shallow to be so fortunate to travel in a country steeped in such beauty and history only venturing there to cop a "semi-legal" buzz.
Abraxas is OK... Alright upstairs lounge and got some great Hindu Kush when I was there. The bartender also gave me some free merchandise since he dug what I was wearing
De Dampkring, again a bit touristy, but they have some spot on hot chocolate. Smoke up, drink some cocoa and walk five minutes towards the Van Gogh museum.
Grey Area is small, so don't expect to sit down, but they do have some of the finest hash the city has to offer.
I thought Barney's Lounge was pretty swanky (there were two locations last time I was there [don't remember which was better]). Good atmosphere and people IME.
Amnesia has a relaxed vibe and good green. Baba (middle eastern themed) too, though can be busy at times.
Greenhouse had sweet product and wasn't full of tourists when I went. Your mileage may vary.
Be sure to check out the museums, go for a boat ride along the canals & rent a bike. The Netherlands really are lovely, so try and get outside the city (maybe Utecht). The countryside is what bards used to sing fairy tales about. Enjoy

Oh man I am jealous I had SUCH a good time in Amsterdam with my wiferson, I felt at home there, I felt a deep sense of peace and happiness and acceptance being there. I loved the lifestyle, wake up in the morning, grab a fresh coffee and a "space muffin" edible and smoke a spliff at the coffeeshop, go for a bike ride, grab a beer at a pub...
Heavenly.
And the truffles! Not to be missed!

Nah, most likely not. If my sister brings her friend and they go off somewhere, I might get lost and found in a red room.

Yeah, I've had the same sense of peace being there. I'll try the truffles for sure. Been there twice without doing them, now's the time.
They sell cacti there as well, if I'm not mistaken.

Hope you have a good time OP! I'll be visiting the Netherlands in December but will only be doing a couple of day trips to Amsterdam.
All of the coffee shop recs here are much appreciated! It's like Yelp for delinquents.

Yeah I believe San Pedro is pretty easy to get in a smartshop, and not too expensive either. Have fun man

Come to the city of Goes in Zeeland, and visit Plan-B, the coffeeshop overlooking the main town square! You can get there from Amsterdam Central, take the train to Vlissingen central and you won't have to switch, even.

Only State of Mind still exists. When were you last here?
Sarasani dealt coke under the counter and was closed. Black and white sold to minors and was closed.
Russhia I have never heard of but I am sure it doesn't exist at the moment. Probably fell victim to the rule that no coffeeshop could be within a 500 meter radius of a school. We lost more than half of the shops that way.
Hi/lo is a good alternative nowadays.
