[pics] How am I doing as a peyote daddy - #1 dad or lost visiting privileges?

My beautiful babies got to me a little less than 2 weeks ago, very nice condition aside from some dried out dead tissue. Excellent roots. Smaller than I expected but none the less ended up going Cronus and ate about 50 wet grams of the larger buttons. Barely would consider it a trip, but experienced a nice shift of consciousness that put my mind where it needed - do not regret.
Been doing a fair amount of research as I would like to take care of this plant and watch it grow till I'm dead. Cuts were made with a clean blade at an angle not too far down so it could shoot off some new babes, I'd say about 70ish% formed multiple new buttons.
This whole time since arrival its been stored dry bare roots, out of direct sunlight indoors near a north facing window that doesn't get harsh lighting. Finally decided it was probably ready to get replanted as the cuts all healed and bunch of new buttons popping up. Here's the start of the dilemma.
They are planted in a pretty glazed ceramic pot - which has drainage holes. As it was a massive clusterfuck I decided to separate the plant in 3 - all of which have what seems to be lots of very good roots. NO WATER. If I recall right the best thing to do is to put them in the soil and let it be for 2 weeks? There's my first issue the "organic cactus mix" that I picked up from a nursery.
I think it might do better in something else but maybe this is okay? The brand is Espoma Organic Cactus Mix For Cactus, Palm & Citrus. Bag says its peat humus, sphagnum peat moss, sand, perlite, earthworm castings, dolomitic limestone and Myco-tone. "A blend of endo and ecto mycorrhiza". Basically some fungi species to "promote root growth, increase nutrient and water uptake" and from what I see create an ecosystem that's creating the necessary nutrients for cactus... organically? Hopefully less on the nitrogen side and more on the phosphorus. Will have to be very careful with watering eventually.
The bag has no information on fertilizers and neither does the data sheet cause I assume there are none? No idea what the ph is at either which is stressing. Expected it to be a bit more... rocky.
problem 1. Is this cactus mix shit and should I go back and buy the things to mix my own? Possibly even go for a porous pot incase this one doesn't drain well enough in the future?
problem 2. Should I do anything about the very dead and dry white/brown parts that have been like such since the babies came?
Am I unaware of 1000 other errors lol?
Data sheet with that ecosystem

Here's some pictures of the babes, offshoots from cuttings, and ORGANIC CACTUS MIX

thanks if you wanna help, hopefully years from now I'll laugh as I look over masses of this beautiful cactus.

You are probably gonna get some grief from some for using store-bought mix, but don't take it personally. If it were me, I'd maybe use that mix you bought and mix in some extras. Limestone, sand, heck even perlite. I'm sure others will have some good recommendations. In all honesty, they might do just fine in that mix, but I'd be too concerned about the potential that soil wouldn't dry out as quickly as I would like.
Everything else you have done sounds good to me, letting the roots heal, potting up and letting sit without water, etc. Keep up the good work.

Woo. Glad I'm not fucking up. Thanks that sounds like a very good idea to get that mix to something really nice and quickly drying.
I'll have to go shopping tomorrow.

buy some limestone gravel, and some crushed lava rock. I regularly have to modify commercial potting mix to my needs. Add some limestone gravel. Trust me..your Lophs' will love you for it.

i just use regular potting soil + sand.
anything else you do is about optimising growth, but as long you have good drainage your lophs will be safe from rot and most diseases n stuff.
incidentally some of those pups look just about the right size for grafting to pereskiopsis.
