Not Liberal Enough for the Liberals?

In case you aren't aware, I'm pretty liberal. Like hella liberal. I think I pay too few taxes and wouldn't mind paying more if it meant more of my fellow citizens could have access to quality healthcare and education (preferably through 4 year college) but lately...I've been feeling a kind of disconnect.
Take the not-so-recent story surrounding the woman arrested for sending her children to another (richer) school district. While I was sad for her arrest, I understood the fundamental principle; she was a thief. The parents in that district paid for their school to be a good one, sent their kids to extracurricular activities and programs to nurture their education. In essence these people provided the best they could, economically, to their children and this woman waltzed in and thought her kids deserved it with no sacrifice on her part save a longer car trip.
Needless to say, my viewpoint was not well-received in the circles I normally travel in.
So do I lose my liberal card?
Am I not liberal enough for the liberals anymore?
What's happening? I don't feel like I'm in Kansas anymore.
I mean look, if Americans paid enough taxes to cover this kind of stuff it would be one thing; but we don't and the system we live in means people need to be responsible for our own. There will be no more government "programs" to make up for lack of planning, foresight, or plain common sense. I don't think I'm a traitor to the cause of a better socialized society, but I am a realist...I think?

I get called liberal alot, but personally I identify as moderate or independent. I would like to see huge amounts of progress happen, but don't really see anyone with a convincing plan and some credibility to back it up, and I'm not going to get behind something that isn't well thought out. It seems like the best option is to discredit extremists on all sides and offer reasonable solutions to move forward.
I always vote for the green party. People who are conservative are usually are just hypocrites who naively want to turn back the clock to some era they idealize, and libertarians are usually anarchists who grew up enough to realize that they have to work with others in order to solve large problems, but because they are either immature or selfish they can't come to grips with the fact that the government should be an inclusive socialist institution.
The green party is basically what democrats should be. Vote green.

To most liberals, money isn't a concept that they can grasp, they think it's infinite in nature. The fact that you acknowledge that there's not unlimited resources for everyone now disqualifies you from holding your "liberal card". This is a sign you're maturing and turning into a adult.

I've told my boyfriend, when we move back to the Netherlands, I'm joining the animal party because it seems safe. LOL!
I think this is one of the main problems with American politics and political conversations; we don't think these out fully to their conclusions and we don't consider viable contingency plans should the original plan fall through. It's either arrogance or ignorance that leads this but I'm sure it's both. I've been guilt of both at the same time at many points in my activism.
Is there a viable American moderate party? Maybe a coalition of social liberals but fiscal conservatives?

I don't think there's any need to put yourself in a box. Form your own opinions rather than trying to worry about what other people will think about them.

All I know is that the democrats and republicans are spread way too thin from an ethical standpoint. People don't even expect them to follow through on what they promise, it is a given that they lie to sway people, and we all know that politics is more of a game for the rich than a means to enact change through community action.
I think the green party is very viable, and their proposals are both optimistic and realistic, but I wouldn't say it's in line with American values. America values are often shit though. Too many people are rooting for the end of the world just to spite their enemy, when we should be working together to solve problems. What else would a new age of reason come out of other than a giant clusterfuck though? I still have hope.
