What kind of crazy are you?
    #22299357 - 09/27/15 04:19 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I get the feeling that everybody is a bit crazy on some level or another. and if they think they're not then they're in denial which is also a form of crazy..

There's a whole spectrum for schizophrenia, it looks something like this

the autism spectrum is a little different, and is actually a lot broader and general than the schizophrenia spectrum

now remember these are just models we can use to diagnose certain "anomalies" in the human thinking process. whether or not these are actual anomalies or rather just distinguishing characteristics of a certain personality type or mode of thinking is still up for debate..

regardless, there are still a vast array of labels we can put on a certain mental behavior which we could characterize as an impediment to our ideal way of living

most (if not all) "mental problems" stem from stress. stress can be caused by many factors, primarily hunger. other things such as obsessive thought loops tend to be a primary source of stress for myself, along with hunger.

we can all take measures to prevent or temporarily subside this stress, but certain underlying mental "conditions" may amount to triggering that stress in ways you may not normally be consciously aware of.

As the mind is programmed to take-in input in certain ways, it knows only what it is accustomed to. so it may not even seem abnormal initially, and may even seem that stress can be coming from nowhere...

but if you can identify the key cause of your stress, by picking apart your brain and determining what kind of mental "fixation" you may have, you can take the first steps in becoming aware of how your brain works. and that is probably the key to managing any problems you may believe you have.

now remember, these aren't necessarily problems. it's really a matter of whether you recognize certain mental faculties as being a hindrance to your mental psyche or not.

so what kind of crazy are you?

I've got chronic insomnia. As far as crazy, I guess I do risky behavior. What kind of crazy is that?

i would say ADD

i would try a specific breathing pattern when trying to sleep at night

4-7-8

inhale for 4 seconds

hold for 7 seconds

exhale for 8 seconds

do this for about 1-3 minutes when you're about to go to sleep, however you normally go to sleep

inattentive ADD with maybe a hint of autism (like mild aspergers)

I'm pretty introspective and tend to overthink things though I don't do it nearly as much as I used to. I guess I sorta trained myself not to since it was so detrimental.

as far as

I think you hit the nail on the head here. What exactly is normal? I'd be willing to bet 90% of the the population, probably more, meets the criteria for some type of psychiatric "disorder"

If everybody is a bit crazy than doesn't that make the whole "disorder" argument kind of...off? If there is no "normal" baseline for human mental behavior than the amount of people suffering from actual DISORDERS should be very very small?

I'm not refuting your post, I'm just curious what you think.

Anyway, I've been diagnosed with a "mild" form of Bipolar Disorder coupled with Anxiety and PTSD for a young life no person in a first world country should have; BUT I have also been in talented and gifted programs since I was a young and am an autodidact on subjects outside of my formal education. I was previously on 3 medications but took myself off of them.

While it's sometimes hard, I've found my anxiety has often pushed me to try to be the best at what I do or, failing that, learn as much as possible to perform a function admirably.Constantly feeling you aren't good enough can push you to at least try to be. I don't fear failure as much as I fear absolute humiliation.

for real? Then what happened?

I kept trying to hold on and he bit me like 4 times then I finally let go and was like "Fuck, shit, fuck, dammit" as I went to the bathroom and washed the wounds with peroxide and rubbing alcohol

I've actually grabbed a mouse bare-handed once before but that one didn't bite me like this

I tend to take extremely high doses of psychedelics... or used to I should say. :toomuchacid: It's been a while since my last trip though. Other than that... just plain wreckless behavior. You gotta have some fun in this life.

Too many types of crazy to list. Or at least, too many for me to want to take the time it would take to sit here and write it all out.

Overall I'm fine as long as I'm not drinking liquor and I'm not routinely going 36+ hours without sleep (and then only sleeping 2-3 hours). Either of those happen, or happen together, I'm a psychotic lunatic :uhoh:

I quit liquor quite a while back, and I'm more or less sleeping regularly without problem.

I can relate to the way people with tourettes say that their tics are just like itches that need to be scratched.  I tend to keep it under wraps when I am around people, but when I am alone I will just have to do certain movements and repetitive behavior to cope with anxiety that seems to come from somewhere.

Also sometimes I will count things, but I usually just start from some random number, skip numbers at random, and don't even accurately count what I am counting.  I'll just be like "16, 17, 18, 22, 21, 19, 20, 27, 49, 50." in my head to count my steps when I am walking.  So add in dyslexic ODD.

I would say I have more problems regulating my mood moreso than having paranoid flights of fancy a la schizophrenia.

Never been diagnosed with anything, but I've had alot of people tell me I am likely depressed.  There are some things that I feel conflict with this, like I never really feel that sad, I'm not suicidal, I don't feel powerless, I don't feel empty, at least not in any extreme sense.  Overall I think I am pretty balanced.  I do feel like most people who have tried to put labels on me and say that I needed to be fixed just didn't understand me and preferred a world where everyone is complacent and submissive.

So I am the standard kind of crazy that just means I am aware of my own humanity and do my best to arrange my lifestyle and habits so that I can cope in a healthy way and live out my potential in the way I ultimately choose to do.

it's really only a "disorder" if you perceive it as a disorder. this can cause real side-effects and real problems, but only if you don't understand what's going on and believe it is having a negative effect on you.

watch this

Depressed. But the crazy part is that I don't believe that to be crazy at all. I think the happy ones are crazy. Or at least ignorant. Or selfish.

do you see this as a problem for you?

if you feel like you're better off being depressed because that makes you less ignorant and selfish, you should probably know that your depression probably stems from a superiority complex and perfectionist mindset.

you hold yourself up to the same standards as everybody else and when others don't meet those standards you feel like your efforts are worthless.

where are you seeking your happiness?

Interesting. I could see how ADD would coincide with risky behavior. I don't have any trouble with staying focused though.

I have tried counting breaths. One night, I counted 700 breaths before I quit. I have also counted ladders. Like 1-10, 10 back to 1, 1-20, 20 back to 1, etc. But, it doesn't seem to work. I have just learned to live on little sleep. It sucks, but I got to keep living so oh well. And, I wouldn't wish chronic insomnia on my worst enemy.

oh that's why it doesn't work. you're not supposed to be focusing on the numbers. you're supposed to be focusing on the breath.

I'll try it again, but I've done meditation before bed just focusing on breaths to no avail.
