san pedro brew

One of my friends is making a brew out of san pedro, and was wondering if it should be served hot or cold, or let us know your fav recipies.

ps- would it be a good idea to eat the remaining skin and flesh even though he filtered out the juices obtained from boiling it for a few hours?

simplified version

cut spikes off of cactus

peel skin off (sharp knife works well for getting a good peel goin)

cut the photosynthetic layer of dark green meat into chunks

toss the white woody core, try to get as much meat off it as possible

blend/juice chunks into pulp. cover with water in a pot.

simmer/low-boil for 20-30 mins for 3 trials, straining pulp through a tshirt and saving the green water. adding lemon juice will help mask the taste.

boil excess water off, syrup is ~5oz/12" cutting

I didn't have time to boil off all my water (because I wanted to dose at a decent time that nite) so I had to drink 2.5 glasses of slightly slimey water. Added ice cubes and some sugar, and it was easily poundable. Colder stuff is easier to drink (think: vodka in a freezer).
