Your first computer

Mine was Vic 20.  I wonder how many people ever even heard of that.

Then I had Commodore 64 and 300 baud modem.  I thought I was the shit.  My first IBM was 12mhz, 640k ram, and a 20MB hard drive and an upgrade to 2400 baud. :rolleyes:

At least DOS was fairly stable. :crazy:

I sometimes get notstalgic about the days of programming in BASIC, making war dialers, and staying up trolling all the BBS's.    :heartpump:  I looked foward to getting home, and seeing what treasures my war dialer had found for me to explore.

Got ya beat on this one, but I'm gonna show my age (and nerdiness) here:

I had a Timex/Sinclair 1000 that my mom got me at Thrifty (way before it was Rite Aid) for $40. It was such a piece of crap it didn't even have a floppy disk drive, so you had to plug in a tape player and listen to some godawful screeching shit just to load a game.

Came standard with 2K, expandable to a whopping 16K! It had some decent games for the time, though, and you could program in BASIC on it, so I was a happy kid.

And I agree with you about DOS - it was a pain in the ass to use, but at least the damn computer didn't crash at random.

Dos was/is the shiz...6.22 is still kicking on one of my machine's...
My first computer was a Commodore 64, then an old 486 that ran win3.11...

you guy's remeber those old sierra games? like king's quest and shit? those were so much fun

Yup, Sierra had all the best games. I actually still have an old box full of them at my mothers house.

I remember playing Ultima on the 64 when it was text based.

Hell yes, Kings Quest VI and VII were on my (what I believe to have been a) 286.. the best part about the computer was that the brand name/logo on the box/monitor/kb was "Leading Edge" :lol:

It was fairly advanced compared to some of the systems you guys are naming, and being a kid in early elementary school it was a great toy to have :cool: 

I eventually moved up to a Pentium 100 with a 1.6GB drive which ran me over $2000 at the time :eek:

From there is was a P2 450 mhz with 30GB drive and 256ram and currently I'm running a P4 1.3 ghz with combined 130GB storage which is all full and 256mb ram which is the bottlekneck in my current system.

man I don't remember... my uncle allen always had the latest computers. I just remember learning how to use DOS prompts to play games on his comp. there was this one puzzle game called Pushover where you played this little ant and you knocked down dominoes that could do different things so that the red one always fell last, and you couldn't move it but you could move all the others.

man i loved that game!!!

does anyone here know what I'm talking about??

I had fprgotten about that game.


Back to the main topic. I guess technically my first computer was an Atari.

My first real computer was a 486sx20 with 4 megs of ram and a whoppin 130mb hard drive. My first upgrade was a 250mb secondary drive and then a 2x cd-rw.

Me too, A commadore vic 20,  Fuck talk about slow load time.  Did you have to use an audio tape for a "disk"?  I did.

You would play the audio tape and after it loaded then you could run some gay little dos program.  It's come allong way since... :lol:

My first computer I believe was a Tandy 2000 TRS-80 I think it had about 200 kb of memory or something of that sort, no hard drive, just a floppy disk, the big ones. then I had a 486 sx20 with a 200 mg hard drive, did alot of BBSing on that baby. this was about the time that warcraft 2 came out. very addictive game. then i upgraded to a 486 dx2 66 with 4 more mgs of ram which came up to 8 and also i added a new video card, from .5 mg vidio card to a 2 mg video card. then a few little ones i put togeather for fun, like 386's n such. the ole p120, then a p333, and now a p866 plus my sisters each have a 1.2 ghz or more and a p333 laptop, my brother has a p766 with a bran new laptop. were such nerds :crazy:

Heheh! My stepdad had a TRS-80, and gave me my first taste of computers! My first one was the Commodore Color Computer I got in Junior HS. I thought that thing was the shizznit! :grin:

I'm currently using my first computer. It's a celeron 800 mhz and it came with a 20 GB drive that i since upgraded to a 160 GB, and a 128meg ram that I upgraded to 256k.

I'm not gonna upgrade to 512 meg, I'm gonna build a new system tax time. I'm planning on a p4 2+ ghz, 1 gig ram, dvd burner, dvd rom/cd burner combo drive, directx 9 compatable vid card, 160 GB boot drive and 250 GB storage drive.

I'm moving the 160GB drive and dvd rom/cd burner to it from this system. Then I'm gonna get a cheap hard drive and cd burner for this one and sell it, or save it for an emergency backup system.

my first computer was a "digital" brand laptop that was 33mhz, some crazy trackball mouse that was the size of a pea, a whopping 400mb harddrive, i believe 8mb of ram, and a 7800 baud modem. beastly. it ran windows 3.11 pretty nice back in the day...i guess.
