build a Shot gun fruiting chamber. adding anything to BRF cakes just dilutes their nutrition, BRF is one of the most nutritious substrates cubensis will eat. coffee can be an alright additive, with cakes use diluted coffee liquid not the grounds.
shot gun fruiting chamber is the only fruiting chamber that you use perlite with that actually works well. it's 100% passive and it's more automated than any "automated FC" i have ever seen built anyway

Skip the coffee additive. Follow the regular tek. If you havent, watch RR's LetsGrowMushrooms videos on youtube, it will show you everything you need to know.
For fruiting chamber, look up shot gun fruiting chamber.. clear plastic tote, 1/4 inch holes drilled on ALL SIX sides in a 2" by 2" grid patter, 5" of dampend perlite in the bottom, raised up at the corners off the table.
Oh you guys beat me to it

Definitely check this out...

If you are new...I would leave out the coffee and other additives, except maybe Gypsum... Go by the tek...resist the urge to deviate until you understand it.
Welcome to the Shroomery!!! Good vibes, and

the official "bod is being a dick with his advice for new growers"
I would skip making the TEK better 1. no one excluded additives from BRF tek because we're holding out on you... there not there for a reason 2. fucking grow the things first before you come up with your own ideas. you're not outsmarting any one, it's been thought of 100s of times before, trust me. 3. how come every noob can make a PF cake and follow those directions but when it comes to the fruiting chamber they dick it up like mad. just fucking build it according to the directions, modify it after you have some experience, practice, skill, etc...

keep us updated

Ok I will update if I have successful colonization, then deal with fruiting chamber issues. According to what I've read, a fan disrupts the natural air flow which is a problem for me. what if it's not directly hit by the fan?

It could be ok, what type of fan are we talking? Just do your best to keep it out of the air currents. You might have to mist a little more than usual but if you can't do it anywhere else what can you do

it's best if you can find a room without a fan.
perlite is naturally going to evaporation cool itself since you hydrate it with water. evaporation and the cooling effect(like sweat on your skin) create an area of low pressure in the perlite in the bottom of the SGFC. this draws air in through the bottom holes, ideally you have your florescent light above the chamber which provides some heat albeit minimal since it's florescent. the slight heat makes an area of slightly higher pressure and air is cycled out through the side and top holes. CO2 produced by the mycelium doesn't flow out the bottom or the sides. it mixes with air basically immediatley.(infinite miscability in this system) and is carried out.
a fan in the room fucks with the chimney effect that's created in the SGFC, chances are if you have a fan in the room you'll have to mist more often. without a fan you can mist a couple times a day or even go on vacation and come back to some shrooms. with a fan in the room cracked caps is your enemy.

I would recommend leaving the fan out, or off... I tried that and when I turned the fan off...I had much better results. Just my 2cents.

Yeah I mean my state right now is hot as fuck so I need to have a fan on all day but it's nothing too extreme, I usually keep it on a low flow setting throughout the whole day. I also got an air purifier that I was gonna use so the mushrooms had nicer air to breath. I could take it into a different room at different times (I don't have to keep it secret), but overall it just needs to stay in my room. Maybe I can build a nice sheet fort for it and also put it behind a dense object. But overall it's not that major of a fan, nothing too crazy. I'm excited

You are smart. Anyways, I guess maybe I could just put the thing in a closet on most days. I will try to avoid the fan as much as possible, and maybe revert to sheet fort when I have to??

6-12 inches for a 26W spiral fluorescent (replaces 100w incandescent) 6500K(color temperature) bulb in a reflective housing.
I think you'll be fine, you'll just kind of have to wait and see how it looks and then make some judgments or post pics

If your lid is clear... I like to mount mine at a slight angle about 8-12 inches away. I use the 6500k blue CFL bulbs...they don't put out much heat. And do yourself a favor buy a $5 timer at Walmart to plug your light into...so it clicks on and off every 12 hours automatically. I think Bod, just beat me to it...lol

I have no experience with LED's...maybe Bod or another user can chime in, but if you want a cheap light fixture, there are clamp on lights, and I even found a cheap lamp with a flexible arm where a second bulb can go... I bought the lamp, CFL bulb, and timer for less than $30 at Walmart. For the bulb, you want a 6500k blue Compact Fluorescent Light. They are usually 15-20watts, but they replace 60watt incandescent bulbs. Hope this helps.
