pic porn. Temps are 55F RH 70% auto misting is 3 min every 8 hours. 1-2 times a day i will manually mist ensuring all the pins get wet. I moved the 3 pink logs back into my pantry for warm shock for saturdays market. The blue logs that had 3-4 more days colonizing in my pantry are pinning much stronger than the ones i moved prematurely.

Top filling the bags with water made these 3-4 flushes huge even in comparison to the first flush on some bags. Im definitely going to be using the same method on my logs. Make a slit on the top to fill with water via a hose.

That's an awesome idea! Do you have any comparison pics for with vs. without watering?

Hope that this isn't too dumb of a question, but I assume you cut holes in the bottom for drainage?

why are you keeping the RH so low? seems like they would do a lot better in the mid 90s.

I cut holes in the first place. Sometimes the straw is a bit wet when i pack the logs. I do have a comparison.
log 1
44 lbs start weight first harvest 18oz 2nd 16 oz 3rd 7 oz
41 oz total first flush 5.8% start wet weight.
log 2 with top watering on first flush, top watered mid way through fruiting.
49 lbs start weight first harvest 37oz 2nd 16 3rd 2
55oz total first flush 7% start wet weight
I will continue this experiment with these bags on the 2nd and third flush, i think that is where you will the the larger difference in BE.
With the temp in the 50-60s they seem to like around 70 RH. If i have the RH any higher they get slimy caps and waterlogged.

I wonder if that's what's going on with my kings. Low temps high humidity. Will put pictures up in my thread.

Ok then here's a dumber question. You're supposed to cut a hole in the bottom of the bag?

Even if i don't top fill the logs i typically make 2-3 stabs in the bottom with my knife. This allows any excess moisture to leave the bag. And if the bottom fruits then cool!

Interesting! That goes for shiitake as well. I noticed that if you keep temps too low and humidity high with a FC filled up with 40 kg of shiitake mush quality goes down, they get slimy and shelflife diminishes. Shelflife is much better for shiitake if you keep FC between 17 and 20 C and humidity around 70/80. I water a lot on the ground during pinset though!

I mist the shit out of these especially during early growth. Typically i mist the logs while spinning them then hose down the floor, walls, door, and ceiling with a larger spray setting then set the misters to manual 3 min on. I only stop misting a few hours before harvest to let them dry out a bit, then i just manually hit all the fruits that aren't ready for harvest so they keep going along. Im now noticing the bags directly above my intake are drying out a bit faster. Ill have to build a deflector or some ducting if i want to continue placing bags there. Ill probably just throw the lid on the tote with a hole for the pail and drill big holes going out sideways and just a few going up.
I still haven't finished my exhaust. Its functional but just laying on the garage floor getting all wet. After the holiday i'll have time to build a mounting bracket, ducting and possibly an air filter.

Pulled my first few clusters of blues today. I have the intake fan on max speed trying to make the stems shorter, may just be genetics.

Forgive me if I've missed it in the rest of the thread, have you got a standalone fan running within the FC itself?

No i don't. I had one slated for such use and nixed it since i was using it for my martha. The fan is now unused and i have a mount for it just need to install it. You think that would help with the stem length? Right now i'm having a minor issue. It's pouring rain out and the RH is stuck at 88%. I'm trying to dry them out for harvest and its not working, going to have to pick a bit wet.

First part of the first flush.

Just moved big bertha in to make room in my pantry, almost at full capacity!! Just have 3 spots open on the right side.

Big bertha was a bitch to move, i felt like it was going to split in half while carrying her. Luckily the wife was there to help hang her. The only nice thing is she makes amazing efficiency of grow space in the chamber. I'm thinking about sticking with the smaller bags but attach two together using a loop, hang them end to end like sausage. That will double my capacity without killing my back. Until then ill keep growing my old pink oyster bags on the floor to make use of the space.
I just mounted the 8" inline fan for circulation. Its located in the corner above the intake fan to help distribute the fresh air.

Yes, I think it would help. I think CO2 locally and increased turbulence helps disperse it. If the RH is high enough the resulting evaporation/reabsorbption should increase your yield. Our yields went from 20 to 25% recently when I removed a gauze that I'd placed over the fan in our FC.
Good work! Exciting when it all takes form eh? Though, I must admit when I started I never imagined how much time could be spent cleaning mushrooms He who masters the high-yield, no-casing Kings is King!
