Perlite is needed for a sgfc. Bruising is a sign of either rough handling or dryness. Since you're not using perlite my money is on dryness.

Well 5 days isn't a crazy long time to not see pins, it's taken me a week and a half before, and I hear it sometimes takes even longer. When I have this problem I think along the lines of pinning triggers. -mist then fan for evap off the substrate -make sure it's plenty humid -make sure your FAE is dialed in -have lights on a cycle
Barring some weird thing I can't think of right now, if you pay attention to these things and have some patience you will be seeing pins before you know it.
(But like the guy above me said, if your cakes is dry then that may very well be an issue, however you said you dunked it for a while so I think you're good with on the moisture front)

Perlite should be easy to find, and is cheap. I'm sure it's possible to keep them hydrated enough without perlite, but I'm not a fan of being a slave to a hobby personally, and if your cakes are blue they're probably dry.

Yea I agree they are most likely dry. If you don't have perlite then what are you fruiting them in?
Good news is its not too late. GET PERLITE

They sell perlite everywhere cheap...Lowes, home depot, Walmart, garden stores, online...definitely get some perlite. Gotta have the right tools if you want the right results.
