Sg fruiting chamber
    #22294355 - 09/26/15 04:08 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I can't decide where to put my shot gun fruiting chamber. First let me ask are they still prone to contams at this point ? I'm thinking not because in the pf tek video they are bare handing the cakes before they put them in the fruiting chamber. Really the only place I can grow them in is my bedroom, which is in a basement. I don't want to put them in the upstairs living room which would be ideal. When I trod growing pot in my basement they kept getting some kind of mold I think. I don't want that to happen to my golden teachers. So again should I not worry so much once they are 100% colonized ?

Thanks for any responses. I need some peace of mind

If you basement has mould keep them out of the basemate. properly consolidated cakes are resistant to contam while fruiting but not bullet proof

The fruiting stage does NOT have to be done in sterile conditions, and actually would be impossible to do since it needs fresh air.

"So again should I not worry so much once they are 100% colonized ?"

Correct.
Always keep an eye on your stuff to see what it needs (air, misting, contams).

If Mycelium is colonized, and HEALTHY, then it can fight contams.
You can tell when Mycelium is not healthy.

I agree, they are pretty Contamination resistant once fully colonized, but I wouldn't expose them to a known contaminant or mold.
I have had a cake contaminate, but it was after the 3rd Flush...the mycelium was pretty weak by that point.

Thank you guys. It's not like mold is growing anywhere visibly. I just know I had a problem with my pot. I'm glad for the responses . This sight and mainly the people on the boards have been so helpful and I sure appreciate that.

No worries, For me the hardest part of this hobby is patience...it's hard not to obsess about something you want to succeed, not to mention all the work we put in. Keep asking questions and reading and you will get there!
Mycology has been very good to me, and the people on this site are AMAZING!
