Oldest Browsers Installed
    #22293601 - 09/26/15 01:22 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I have:

Netscape Communicator 4.79
SRWare Iron 2.0.178.0
Firefox 1.8 (won't load)

Anyone else have old browsers installed?

Nope, I have a super old version of VLC that works with a plugin to preview chunks of emule p2p media....

I almost deleted my dos 6.22 ISO image, but I didn't. I might need it. I hope not.

i liked it the best. plus, back then, your choices were Netscape or IE.
Also, i used to do RP chat (there was no such thing as MMORPGs and there might not have even been MUDs yet) and netscape worked the best on my chat site)  I kept using it until there were like 30 errors per page, then i just couldn't take it anymore.

MUD's have been around since before the web existed.  The web isn't even that old.

The web's been around since the 1950s. I'd call that old, but not in mixed company. lol

I meant why would anyone want those old ass browsers these days.
Netscape was okay, but when firefox popped onto the scene I dropped it so fast.

I have a text browser on my computer, but the only time I ever use it is when I break X and can't fix the issue.

Same here. Or if I'm on a remote server with no UI I gotta telnet into.

It just comes in handy some times (and I think the majority of Linux distros still have w3m in the package mgr).

The web is far newer then that.

It was invented in 1989

http://webfoundation.org/about/vision/history-of-the-web/

So many people seem to think HTTP aka the world wide web, is the internet and the internet is the web and that is not the case.

The web is merely a protocol and platform that uses the internet (or any network for that matter) to run on top of.

lol. I suppose it depends on one's wording.

To me, the WWW, or the browse-able web may have been created in 1989, but the first computers made to communicate information to each other happened in Massachusetts on 20 April, 1951, as a test to control a series of US-based radar stations in the Arctic.

Maybe I'm just considering conception as the start, while others may believe birth to be the beginning.

No, you are just confusing the INTERNET with the WORLD WIDE WEB.

Its not a matter of perspective, its just two different things.  One runs on top of the other.
