Turns out the friend i was going to get the filter from can't get it to me for 5-6 weeks.

This fan is still strong enough for a 24x16 filter yes? Sorry to ask a question that can be easily answers through math, but i'm still not completely clear and confident in the math of a hood myself. This filter seems nice, little bigger, and will arrive a lot sooner.
I ordered and received the fan from the original post.

Yea I would think the extra 2 inchs wouldn't make too much of a difference? I didn't draw out the math either though

2ftx1.33ft=2.66sq ft so i should be looking for about 266-366 cfm @ 1.1-1.2" is what i believe is the range.
@ 1.1" my fan is at 295 cfm, at 1.2" it is at 260.
That sounds like it's cutting it pretty close, but that it should run fine in theory? Perhaps i will have to look for a prefilter that adds a minimum amount of static pressure.

I actually started giving this a try per ur sugguestion man, my pre filter is just held in place by those blocks of wood but its actually a tight enough fit that it doesn't leak without them. So I just unscrew the strips and I just pop the filter out before I start working

nice man!! i basically coincidentally found out that trick cause i realized my blower was on the verge of not being strong enough at home, so i started taking the pre filter off during work, and noticed less contamination with bags in particular. if the blower is a little strong, then keeping the pre filter on during work is better idea.
i just got my new hepa in the mail though, so I'm pretty stoked to go a bit larger. not trying to build one after this, so i got really nice 3/4" maple ply that is smoother than a babies ass. gonna build walls out about 12", and thinking about the pre filter housing. might skip it if the walls are there.
