right because buying into consumer culture when it comes to the convenience of eating out often necessarily makes you a less boring person. that is some grade A logic right there folks.

It isn't that hard to pick up some chicken breast, rice and beans, and some veggies for a dinner. A one-time charge on a George Foreman for 20 bucks. If you want to get fancy, buy an onion or two and pick some edibles or veggies. A bushel of produce at a farmers market is at best 20 bucks for a week of produce for a family of 4.

It all boils down to convenience. If I want halibut and lobster, I've gotta go to the store, break out a few pots/pans, spend hours on prep/cooking/cleaning. I can't go catch my own halibut or trap lobsters where I am either (convenience again). Or I can spend that extra 20 bucks to have it served to me in a nice atmosphere on a date night.

You can completely eat on the cheap and eat healthy if you want. If you are a physical laborer and get short breaks then yeah go grab a burger, I don't care. I'll only start caring when I'm paying some lardass's health insurance through my taxes.

And speaking of convenience, I went to a gas station/grocery late last night and the snack aisle was riddled with "EBT eligible" signs in English and Spanish. The ice cream cooler had them. A $7 tub of ice cream is covered by SNAP benefits? All they eat is rice and beans anyway. I don't see how I should pay for their terrible food so I can feed their obese children.

Insult to injury was Walmart this morning when shopping for some amenities. Seven people and four carts full of food loaded with snacks, junk food and unhealthy frozen meals. Their total was 5 dollars after all of them swiped their cards and we don't have sales tax.

^ That's where I draw the line.

Eat out all you want, eat all the fast food you want, but the moment you start sucking the government tit - which is by far too lax and forgiving for those people - and taking *my money* for your terrible diet as a luxury, well, fuck off and go get a job. It's not like these people are disability cases or elderly. They don't pay taxes on their under-the-table jobs with a bunch of immigrants. They can get by. There are food shelves and soup kitchens and church food/fuel vouchers.

People at farmers markets also sell canned jellies, preserves and vegetables. They're more willing to negotiate on fresh things since it's typically their "overstock" and will go bad if they don't sell it or give it away. Some grocery stores will give you free bread if you get in good with the bakers. I did cakes and decorative pastries for a spot during college. We would put expired labels on bread and leave it under the counter for homeless or struggling people.

If you can't steam vegetables or boil water for rice then just go starve on the street. Sometimes I wonder how people can wipe their own asses.

Chipotle doesn't suck but IMO it's quite over-rated.

I eat out because it's convenient. Plus there's no way I can make a sandwich at home that would be as tasty as a chipotle burrito.

Occasionally eating something that tastes great is awesome. Feeling the need to constantly satisfy a craving for yummy food is something else entirely, it is an addiction to tasty food. Once you stop eating food like that, after a month or two, you don't crave food like that anymore at all, and you will see what I mean.

I agree if you're referring to sugary or fatty foods but I like to eat great tasting, nutritious food every day (if I can) and consider it a gift not an addiction. I listened to a discussion about how the pleasure of taste in "good" food is actually quite important in directing our dietary behavior and even could be related to cues from our intestinal flora about what we (our bodies) should be eating.

Off-topic, but Aldi's Belmont and one other brand for <$3/48oz is great (and has simple ingredients). Quite a few flavors too- Moose Tracks, Neopolitan, rotating weirder ones like red velvet cake.

Why quit eating meat just because you don't like fast food?

I agree with the point that no... you shouldnt be eating fast food everyday. But sometimes, I want a quick meal while im out that taste good when I obviously cant sit down at a restaurant by myself and wait 30 minutes or so. Fast food is good in moderation.

Are you saying you seriously have never gone out with friends and got fast food?

Trader Joes.  Frozen entrees.  5 minutes in the nuker.  Healthy and good.
