Will rot heal itself?
    #22292127 - 09/26/15 07:56 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Our fall has been unusually wet this year and I noticed the base of one of my bridgesii starting to turn black. I've put it under the overhang for now so it can't get wet but I'm wondering if I need to chop it or if it'll take care of itself. If it can heal what's the best environment? I really don't know much about these guys at all so I apologize if this is a noob question

If its already turning black, id say cut it.

I dont think iv ever seen rot heal.

If you really dont want to cut it, you can leave it for now, but if the rot continues to spead at all, id cut it.

Bridgesii commmonly get weeping black rot where a black 'wax' come out of it. This type of rot does heal itself and after a few weeks will callous and become a firm brown.

The black rot is usually firm where as regualar rot becomes soft.

Take a picture and post it.

No, it will not heal itself. If it's soft and mushy you will want to cut it and let it callous. If you do nothing with rot you will lose the entire cutting. That shit can be a royal pain.

Cut back to good, healthy flesh - dust with sulphur or cinnamon or hormone rooting powder - allow to dry and repot.
Sometimes it can be surprising just how much rotten flesh you can remove and the plant will still recover.

Maybe some mod or whatever might think this has now been long enough.
