Mold or bruising on my cakes?
    #22291037 - 09/25/15 11:34 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

It looks like this batch of cakes may have gotten a mold.  I've seen this bluish color before and I was told it was bruising on the cake.  But after taking a closer look at some of the shrooms coming off of it, it really does look like some kind of mold.  It's eating away at the shrooms.

These cakes just had a successful first flush.  Should I dunk them again and see if I can get another flush?  Or maybe I should get rid of them before they contaminate anything further.

Sorry, the pics kind of suck.

That mushroom is for sure just bruised. The shit on the cakes look like bruising to me, but it's really blurry, as you pointed out lol

If you can see what's on the clos-up of the little shroom, it's that kind of color I see on the cakes and on the stems of the many of the mushrooms coming off the cakes.

I'll snap so new pics.  Not right now though, too tired...

I wish I had pics, but I've had my cakes and mushrooms bruise extremely close to black before. It's a sign that your cakes are either drying up or have been handled roughly a bunch. Keep them glistening wet  that's about all you can do. If your cakes are the same colour as that, and dont look powdery, you're good man

Thank you.  They are nice cakes.

What is bruising exactly anyway?  I've always wondered about that.  Is it just a discoloration of the damaged mycellial network?

I would assume it is caused by oxidization... The myceliums form of a burst red blood cell or vessel.... Or bruising.

From what I'm reading perhaps you aren't providing enough FAE or indirect misting or the cakes were manhandled while being removed from the jars... Either way a little bruising is normal.
