Ephedra Tea Tek? (mormon tea)

I am taking a Plant Biology course at my university, and I learned that ephedra grows naturally all over the place where I live.
Do any of your fine, knowledgeable ethnobotanical people have any information on making a tea out of these herbs?
I slightly interested in how this makes one feel. I'm not a person who generally enjoys stimulants recreationally. Maybe some coffee for useful purposes. I am a bit sensitive to many stimulants. But I became interested in ephedra tea because it's been called mormon tea. I have early mormon ancestry. Some of my ancestors were among the first ones to come out the Utah and settle the area. I sometimes wonder what they experienced and felt. And surely they drank this stuff. So I figured that since it's ubiquitous, I may as well try it out if it's not much trouble and generally safe to drink.

Ephedra is banned for consumption in some countries due to believed health risks. However , Ephedra can be consumed in a safe way one would think. It's main alkaloids are used in pharmaceutical drugs and it's one of the staple herbs of traditional chinese medicine.
I Don't know how ephedra feels. I know it should be stimulating but it's claimed that those effects only start with a relatively higher dose than one would take for it's medicinal purposes. Higher doses would also likely increase negative side effects.
Ephedra is a plant that I need to add to my collection. I Want to compare ephedra tea vs ephedrine/pseudoephedrine medicine for colds.
My reccomendation is to use ephedra as medicine, not a stimulant.

I've grown at least four different types of ephedra as well as ordered decent bits from China for tea. It has no recreational value IMO. A good cup of coffee is a more noticeable stimulant than the ephedra.
I believe in ancient Chinese medicine it's suppose to be a "warm herb". Meaning it's suppose to help you sweat as well as help lung, heart and blood functions.
Mormon tea is one of the "weaker" forms of ephedra tea with a slightly different alkaloid profile from the more popular ephedra sinica. IMO with the alkaloid content it takes a lot of material to produce a tea strong enough to get any serious stimulation and before then you'll start to feel the "warm" aspect of the medicine. If you were looking to stay up with ephedra just go to the store and buying some pseudophed, it's 10x more effective. One pill of pseudophed is much stronger than the tea. The more pseudophed you take the longer and stronger your stimulant will be and you'll start noticing the side effects: heart feeling a lil different (kinda that weak feeling after a adrenaline dump), warm feeling with sweating and of course the stimulating energy.
Go ahead and see for yourself how it is though. It's pretty light of a tea, not really strong or bitter but like I said coffee is probably a more effective stim

Ephedra is a pretty strong stimulant when combined with caffeine to increase duration. 20-25 mg of ephedrine with about 200 mg of caffeine is quite effective to me. Not all ephedra contain ephedrine but rather pseudoephedrine and the effects are a bit different. You would need to make a tea from about 1-2 grams and work your way up on amount of material used. BTW 2 grams dry not wet.
Mormon tea is the doesn't contain ephedrine so not as suitable as a stimulant however does still provide energy. I would start still start off with 1-2 grams and work my way up until found an amount I liked. Don't expect a MASSIVE effect like with amphetamines using mormon tea more compatible to a strong cup of coffee.
Do not take this if you have any heart issues, high blood pressure or other aliments as this may cause you harm
