Tyvek filters for agar

Tried to post this in the quick question thread, but it seems its now dead or something.
Does the post office still use tyvek envelopes, or have they finally changed to something else? I need some filters for my agar endeavors. It would be nice to not have to pay for them lol. I have one of those big envelopes people seem to be talking about when they talk about P.O tyvek filters, but air doesn't seem to pass through much, so I thought I'd ask.

There is basically 0 GE requirement for agar, so that is a non-issue.
I think the postal tyvek supposedly has poors large enough for contams to fit through open up after enough PC runs or something. I still have some V-tek and agar containers that use them after multiple runs. Haven't had a problem.
So whatever, not ideal, but not worth ordering SFD's or stuffing poly IMO.
If they're poptops I just run'm through the cooker with the lid cracked then shut them as I remove them from the PC.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

im using 1/4 pints and i was advised to use filters, not for GE, but so that when opening the plate for the first time there isnt suction pulling air into the plate when you first crack the lid. the filter is there to assist in the evening of atmospheric pressure in the container more-so than for actual GE

If that is a concern, the PC can be allowed to cool down overnight. Personally, I don't feel an SAB would even work if such a small disturbance sent contams flying everywhere.
The real concern would be that it sucks outside air in through the imperfect poptop seal. While it is possible, I haven't seen any evidence of that occuring with my plates.

So in other words, I don't need no filter.

You don't need a hole. If you do have a hole you need a filter.
I just leave the lids half-popped, snap'm shut as I remove the containers from the PC.
The filter is probably the safer option, but when it comes to modifying 20 lids that will then require foil each use as well, I opt for the simple method.

Lot of old, outdated information floating around out there. Somebody should do a "state of the art" report on the easiest, cheapest, and fastest methods.

Anyway, back on topic.
Do they still use tyvek? Again, it doesn't seem like very much air passes through the ones I got. It is a sort of weird material, but I'm not familiar with tyvek so I wouldn't know.
There was a significant air exchange when I opened the jar lid, and the lid was somewhat difficult to get off. Not good when you're trying to make things go smoothly inside a still air box. I think I'll use a filter.

I think Pasty uses micropore tape on the Pasty Plates, anyone else back me up on that?
I stopped using Tyvek for filters anyways except for tyvek sleeves in spawn bags when I sterilize them.
When I cant use an SFD, I use Kraft Felt. It comes in a big 7 dollar roll from Micheals or craft stores, it works great.
Other sources of Tyvek at the hardware store too

I used to use Polyfil for everything, never had a problem, but it was a pain. So I recently switched to SFD's on my grain jars...still just use Micropore on my Pasty Plates If you buy a few SFD's and cut out small filters (I used a quarter for a guide) you can make a ton of filters...cheap. SFD' s work great and so far I've used them all multiple times. I tried postal tyvek, it worked but it was a hassle...SFD FTW!
