Does self-realization amount to finding happiness within? Is that the task for us?
    #22289956 - 09/25/15 08:05 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I'm probably the most inconsistent poster on this forum when it comes to enlightenment and self-realization, I just can never be sure of myself on this topic.

But I'm beginning to wonder if we should ever read anything at all on the topic, that we should proceed instead entirely alone.

Because ultimately what we are looking for is a state of personal, subjective fulfillment. Is it as simple as being happy? A mere quick search of the healthy brain and we're there?

"There is no need to seek happiness, simply remove unhappiness." - Ramana Maharshi

"Just be yourself." - Ramana Marharshi

Yep, another one of these threads. :lolsy:

I think happiness is involved in self realization, but it's one of those things that's fleeting. I think it's more of a search for wisdom, understanding, harmony or union of opposites(self/other to be specific) and peace of mind.
Seems too that self realization involves realizing non-duality. Happiness implies sadness, that's a duality.

It's nice to see you mentioned Ramana, that's cool

I was about to mention a quote of his via the other thread - someone once asked him about supernatural powers and he replied something like, 'omnipotence first, then ask the other question.'

Just briefly, there are lots of different types of happiness for sure. .  Yes; what you say about doing it all ourselves is deeply good - when I went into the woods, I specifically chose not to bring any writing or reading with me. . . but I found two very small books after about 8 days, and they were the most perfect. . .

I met a wonderful person later, and he was also of the view of being purely creative -

still, if one reads very slowly & very comprehensively, then it seems good  hehe. . . if you know what I mean  (oh, and a bit rarely)

another that came to mind to be on target with your thread,

'Freedom from suffering is a great happiness,' - Thay

I really loved it when I came across that.

Like - my friend, was a pure genius on the guitar. . . for me, I like singing beautiful songs, even if I didn't write them.  The rest of the time, I do the majority of my space-time stuff as you say

peace

light.

Surely, though, the Reality is an abode of happiness/bliss - the supreme exaltation of God? God is no ordinary being, and does not feel ordinary, and You are That.

Yes.

And, in my reply last night, I forgot to say -

Yes.

hehe

you have it and this is a very significant thing, have thought of it a few months recently as well

important clue in the puzzle

Thay was a big help to me in opening me up to this - 'When life is life -

'When a tree is a tree - when life is life - then it benefits. . .

'When in our daily life we can be happy and smile, and be peaceful, this profits not just our friends and family, but the whole world - this is basis of peace work'

(quite close to along those lines)

& the tree part. . . that was from Being Peace, talk giv'n '85.

Tty again Circastes

There's one thing you can be sure of... that you are that.

Reading, using words, is very useful up to a point, only understand it is not the words themselves that bring peace, only in the silence beyond all words is there anything that can be called true peace.

It's as simple, or as complicated as we make it.

My suggestion for now... don't be so hard on yourself

Circastes is divine

I wouldn't ever assume anything about him, hehe. .

oh - there was one thread link'd. . . secret to inner happiness, from my other thread, then. . . another Amzy thread.  (Azmy?)

Am going to look for that one soon. . .

Acintya - true peace is always here, boundless & infinite, within the heart & cell of every living being - every form in the universe, it is their source; each cell of each living being, & each cell of each non-living thing.

Words are beautiful & there are other higher forms as well. . . 2 nights ago I realized, we need a symbol for 'are,' as we have a symbol for 'and' - the ampersand.  So if anyone wishes to develop one, please do

Or as a possibility, ^ could be used. . . & ya that's slightly off-topic, but hey :sun:

:awepreciation:

I think I'm back in business actually. It's just been my brain after I mixed mushrooms with antipsychotics and had the most effed up trip. Before that I was a little whacko but I was happy as shit. It's almost back now... Just decided to sit outside in my mum's beautiful garden on this beautiful 20 degree Celsius day with the sun shining... pulled up a chair in the sun and sat there and decided to "just be" and usually when I try that I get this problem of impulsive thinking, like pathological impulsive thinking from a brain disorder, but today it was just fine and I'm just here now on the PC feeling really great again. It's a very "whole" feeling, and it's not like I "have it and have nothing else to gain", it is itself some kind of event or action that fills me but allows for more.

Just Be.

...indeed.

Joy abides deeply in the Heart. It is Eternal and is self-originating.
Happiness occurs in one's Head. It is temporal and depends on circumstances.
Self-Realization encompasses Eternal and temporal together.
