grow log start 9/25/5 *Update, with pics*

Alright guys, Today is the day! My first stab at this, Im going to be doing the brf pf tek, as explained in the RR videos, minus the micro pore tape, as I was told that wasn't really needed. I ground organic brown rice up in my coffee grinder, and mixed the pre determined amounts of water and vermiculite, and filled jars, leaving the top wiped dry and clean, then topped with plain dry verm.I am using sta green horticulture vermiculite, package says fine grain, and 100% verm.
I have 9 jars in my pot, and 4 more to sterilize in about 6 hours (once the others cool down enough to take out and inoculate) I also have 2 jars that were pre sterilized and inoculated on the 23rd, so thats a total of 15 jars, give or take a few that fuck up from an inevitable noob contam problem (hope that doesn't happen though...
Temps for incubation are between 69 and 73f. Im using a diy SAB to keep my inoculations as clean as possible, utilizing lysol and 70%iso to keep everything squeaky clean.
Will be doing b+ and Costa Rica Cubes ms syringe this time around, obtained from a recommended on here vendor, and Will most likely be putting all, or most into a SGFC. Considering putting a couple of these cakes ground up into a mono mini, or something similar, but as of right now, its a 15 jar sgfc run.
Plan on taking prints of what comes out best, and doing a print to syringe to agar transfer, and isolating my best choice for next run. open to suggestions for a second or third cube for next run (when these are fully done). and yes, I know a cube is a cube, but people seem to have preferences here, so I want opinions.
If I have any ms syringe solution left, I will be messing around with agar in the meantime, just for practice.
Picking up a PC soon, but for now, this is what Ive got and what I'm doing.
Ill keep everyone posted, and will try to get a camera for pictures to keep everyone updated.
suggestions and tips welcome!
Wish me luck!

so my first round of jars are done. going to leave the foil on until they cool, and then remove the foil and inoculation, unless someone thinks its best to remove the foil right after its done steaming. From what I read on here, i should leave them in the pot with the lid closed, because if it cools to fast it will suck in dirty air, is this correct? thanks guys
alright dug this response on cool them down
older rr post RogerRabbit said: Let them cool in the pot for about an hour, and then you can remove them to cool faster. Don't do anything silly like run cold water on them, refrigerate, or put in front of a fan, but letting them sit out to cool is OK. When you get a laminar flow hood, that's the perfect place to cool. heres some pics. do my jars seem too moist? I followed the recipe but just wana be sure. group pic is all but the 4 I have getting ready right now. waiting another few hours before I inoculate the jars, doing so in my SAB, dont post pics of that because it looks just like all the others on this site. going to do 50/50 b+/costa Rica, to maximize my chances of getting atleast 2 good prints from this run. A bit worried that b+ tend to want to grow bigger than the cakes allow, but thats ok because I really just a few prints from the best of the best this round. hopefully everything seems fine so far.

Hi welcome to the shroomery.
From the looks of it, your brown rice didn't get pulverized enough. Did it end up in a perfect powder or where there chunks left?
Also its a common mistake but those are the wrong jars. You should have used to 1/2 pint wide mouth seen in RR's mush video. They'll probably take longer to colonize and some even stall. Then you have to tip it upside down to let the mycelium colonize the bottom cause it cant squeeze past the glass and the substrate. Been there done that.
What are your incubation temps?

im ok with the jars this run. next run will have the wider ones. temps are 69-74. rice is a bit chunky but mostly powder because my verm was so fine ground.

I followed a thread some time back where guy had chunky BRF and the cakes colonized in record time. It was 8 days I believe. But they would never fruit since the mycelium couldn't break down the nutrients.

ill try again tonight, im fairly certain its not cob though. i probably cant fit all 15 into my sgfc so would anyone reccoment i try a minimono with a few? what are my other options, or should i just stack a few cakes to make room? would that boost yield at all?

Would stacking cakes on top of cake boost yield?

I doubt there's too much to worry about with that, as myc can grow quite happily on whole grains in addition to flour.

By whole grains are you referring to rye berries?

If you have more cakes that can fit then you can stack them. It will slightly decrease the yeild of the two stacked cakes but it will probably be worth it since youll have more cakes fruiting. Make sure you have room tho if youre gonna do it

3 jars are at 90% im considering building 2 identicle sgfc's. would 15 jars be too many for a single sgfc, and would 7/8 be ok for each of the two. i dont want over crowded, but want my fae to be high enough. can the 3 that will be ready sooner go in alone? i used tall 1/2 pint jars and chunky brf(i ground fine but left some chunky because my super fine verm could have been too dense)
im surprised its going so fast, and still (knock on wood) no contams! ordering some more spores tomorrow(will start round 2 as soon as round 1 is birthed. also ordering agar and tools for spore to lc for round 3. picking up regular short wide 1/2pint for that round.
i want to go bulk, i think ill stick with pf tek to bulk though as ive had pretty decent success so far. any tips guys?

Well first of all it depends gow big your FC is. If you need more space then having 2 FCs would be good idea or maybe double stackin your cakes. 2 FCs would be the better option tho probs And as far as whether or not to do bulk id say if you want to experiment go for it. If you get good results with this grow and thats all you want then stick to pf tel. But i you want to expand and learn new stuff try different methods

You can put as many or as few as you'd like, as long as they aren't touching each other or the walls... if everything is built to spec it'd be fine with one cake...

Have you let the three 100% jars sit for a week? After they become fully white you want to let them sit for another week to make sure the middle gets colonized

Contaminates is inevitable. The verm and BRF is cheap enough to afford mistakes. You'll learn faster that way anyway. For what is worth I've colonized cakes with no dry verm layer and had zero contaminates.

thats pretty cool. i still have a lot to learn but enjoying my luck do far.

Not necessary, the cakes are very contam resistant at that point.

That's the tough part. Every grow varies. It's up to the cultivator too figure that out.

Yes. I should have been more descriptive.
If A: your misting too much = the cakes aren't really getting a chance to evaporate. (it will still happen but not as quickly) B: misting too much = beat up cakes (bruising blue) I still haven't found a straight answer if bruis cakes reduces yield or does anything horrible, but still. I'd assume we want healthy white cakes... Right?

Looking good! That pinset is awesome, I'd definitely clone one of those clusters, that's some good genetics right there!

That'll work too! And swipe some agar plates with the spores to start the process again.

I would just use Pasty's tek, super simple, and works every time. Getting pre-made plates can get expensive. Here's the agar prep I use:
