Alright guys, Today is the day! My first stab at this, Im going to be doing the brf pf tek, as explained in the RR videos, minus the micro pore tape, as I was told that wasn't really needed. I ground organic brown rice up in my coffee grinder, and mixed the pre determined amounts of water and vermiculite, and filled jars, leaving the top wiped dry and clean, then topped with plain dry verm.I am using sta green horticulture vermiculite, package says fine grain, and 100% verm.
I have 9 jars in my pot, and 4 more to sterilize in about 6 hours (once the others cool down enough to take out and inoculate) I also have 2 jars that were pre sterilized and inoculated on the 23rd, so thats a total of 15 jars, give or take a few that fuck up from an inevitable noob contam problem (hope that doesn't happen though...
Temps for incubation are between 69 and 73f. Im using a diy SAB to keep my inoculations as clean as possible, utilizing lysol and 70%iso to keep everything squeaky clean.
Will be doing b+ and Costa Rica Cubes ms syringe this time around, obtained from a recommended on here vendor, and Will most likely be putting all, or most into a SGFC. Considering putting a couple of these cakes ground up into a mono mini, or something similar, but as of right now, its a 15 jar sgfc run.
Plan on taking prints of what comes out best, and doing a print to syringe to agar transfer, and isolating my best choice for next run. open to suggestions for a second or third cube for next run (when these are fully done). and yes, I know a cube is a cube, but people seem to have preferences here, so I want opinions.
If I have any ms syringe solution left, I will be messing around with agar in the meantime, just for practice.
Picking up a PC soon, but for now, this is what Ive got and what I'm doing.
Ill keep everyone posted, and will try to get a camera for pictures to keep everyone updated.
suggestions and tips welcome!
Wish me luck!

so my first round of jars are done. going to leave the foil on until they cool, and then remove the foil and inoculation, unless someone thinks its best to remove the foil right after its done steaming. From what I read on here, i should leave them in the pot with the lid closed, because if it cools to fast it will suck in dirty air, is this correct? thanks guys
alright dug this response on cool them down
older rr post RogerRabbit said: Let them cool in the pot for about an hour, and then you can remove them to cool faster. Don't do anything silly like run cold water on them, refrigerate, or put in front of a fan, but letting them sit out to cool is OK. When you get a laminar flow hood, that's the perfect place to cool. heres some pics. do my jars seem too moist? I followed the recipe but just wana be sure. group pic is all but the 4 I have getting ready right now. waiting another few hours before I inoculate the jars, doing so in my SAB, dont post pics of that because it looks just like all the others on this site. going to do 50/50 b+/costa Rica, to maximize my chances of getting atleast 2 good prints from this run. A bit worried that b+ tend to want to grow bigger than the cakes allow, but thats ok because I really just a few prints from the best of the best this round. hopefully everything seems fine so far.

Hi welcome to the shroomery.
From the looks of it, your brown rice didn't get pulverized enough. Did it end up in a perfect powder or where there chunks left?
Also its a common mistake but those are the wrong jars. You should have used to 1/2 pint wide mouth seen in RR's mush video. They'll probably take longer to colonize and some even stall. Then you have to tip it upside down to let the mycelium colonize the bottom cause it cant squeeze past the glass and the substrate. Been there done that.
What are your incubation temps?

im ok with the jars this run. next run will have the wider ones. temps are 69-74. rice is a bit chunky but mostly powder because my verm was so fine ground.

I followed a thread some time back where guy had chunky BRF and the cakes colonized in record time. It was 8 days I believe. But they would never fruit since the mycelium couldn't break down the nutrients.

Good luck and keep us posted. Sounds like you are intent on doing this right

ill try again tonight, im fairly certain its not cob though. i probably cant fit all 15 into my sgfc so would anyone reccoment i try a minimono with a few? what are my other options, or should i just stack a few cakes to make room? would that boost yield at all?

Would stacking cakes on top of cake boost yield?

Are you asking if stacking cakes would boost yield?

I doubt there's too much to worry about with that, as myc can grow quite happily on whole grains in addition to flour.
