Yeah just be sure to get the tape dry fast if it gets wet.

For sure. I asked this before but can't remember the answer. If 2 layers of surgical tape is good here for agar, why isn't it good enough for grain jars? Why SFDs?

Couple reasons. 1 if a spore works through the agar you can spot the satelite and transfer. Second and more important is that the grain tends to stick to the tape through the hole and clog it up screwing up the GE. I have done grain jars with micropore but it was a PITA.

Okay, cool. Thanks. I figured the first one was the issue, but didn't think it'd be the only one. I could never find micropore tape, only surgical, but its worked fine for tons of plates so I'm sure it's still good.

as per your request here is a video of me knocking up a plate with 3 drops of a MS. The rest of this video is me showing you what the 4 transfer plates look like after about a day.
This is all done in my SAB. Area is wiped down with Iso, plates are put in, sprayed again with ISO. I let it sit for 15min. Syringe is flame sterilized. What am I doing wrong. Also my hands and forearms were washed every time prior to putting them into the SAB. Up until the video.
****Edit****
It is very slowly uploading now, link will be here soon.

I'm going to sleep before the video is up, but you don't need to spray with iso. Just wipe down with a paper towel soaked in iso, including the underside and rim with lid. You also don't need 3 drops. Just do a single drop and do like 6 plates at once.

Yeah its only at 33%.
Also I know once this is posted you will notice another noob mistake, when i bring my phone into my sab.
about the wiping and not spraying and single drops.

If the top of your tub is clear, you can just set your phone on top and record yourself. I recently drilled a small hole into the top of mine so I could lay my camera lens over it and record crystal clear videos and snap pics. If your setup can't allow that and you really want a picture, I'd hold your plate at a 45 degree angle and snap it from the side. I hope you don't put your phone directly above the plate ever.

Well all I have to say then is the plate I knocked up with the MS should be the winner (fingers crossed)

Any of you guys noticed any negative consequences to letting them float around in the water in the PC? I normally try to weigh them down but I've been doing mush shit all day, tired as fuck

Yeah sometimes they end up on their sides. Otherwise.... I dunno? I use two of the metal circle things at the bottom of the PC when I do pasty plates so that I know that I can get away with not even filling up the water to the level of the plates. I think the AA came with 2 but I use one from my old PC and then one that the AA came with to give them just a little more height. There really doesn't have to be much water to PC some agar. I've never run dry once.

I have one of the metal circle things, gonna just drop the water level. I had one plate end up on it's side and I thought it was fucked. I just cleaned it to put it into the current PC cycle and the agar was both fine and non-contaminated after sitting in my mush room for over 2 weeks now.
Just gonna weigh 'em down then. Thanks Inoc
Has anyone else noticed the pasty plates are easy as fuck to drill? I literally stack three ontop of each other and drill through all three, works like a charm.

I fucked up a few lids that way, have a few useless halves of pasty plates laying around.. I also need new drill bits, the shitty black and decker ones I got with the drill are finally shitty enough to fuck every plastic thing I try to drill with them. Probably wore them out on metal lids before I knew better.

Might just add a disclaimer that shitty drill bits will fuck it.

You can always just heat your bit up with your torch and itll melt the hole right through, if you aren't in the market for a new bit and are just making pasty plates. That's what Ive always done for mine.

I find a hot nail works better on the lids of the mini rounds. The drill bit sometimes leaves the whole fucked off.

On a side note I just did way too much dab and I was sitting there with my leftover agar and I was like...

So I tasted it. Tasted like water and agar and potato flakes with a hint of karo

I go through it again with a scissor and cut off any poking parts that might fuck with the micropore.

Too much work. The heat from the nail leaves the plastic lid smooth. I've made easily over 200+ pasty plates last month! Lol
