So I've searched but still unsure of what these are.

So I live in West Ky, in the flood zone, and I've always had these huge clusters of mushrooms of some sort pop up. I'd be grateful if someone could possibly help me identify this, as a fellow beginner I am friends with seems to think these are edible and wants to try them. Thanks.

I have read the post telling noobs to read before posting an ID request, but I don't know what I'm supposed to describe. I have respect for people with knowledge that I have yet to acquire, but I need to get the hang of things. My questions and answers will surely sound less stupid as I learn more.
Best description that I can give is: layered kind of like flower pedals, about the size of a soccer ball, I haven't smelled any aroma, and the post describes that I'm in a flood plane of the lower lying land of west Kentucky about 400 meters from a slow moving river.

They are Armillaria also known as honey mushrooms.
