Art is challenging expectations. Sometimes something is designed to look like art, but it is actually propaganda, and sometimes advertising is actually honest in it's intent and becomes art.

Art is important. Art is culture. That said, there's lots of BS no doubt. There's good art and bad art, and there's conformist art and challenging art. I'd say for any art to be good, it has to first give people a reason to consider it. For that reason, a lot of 'art school' type shit is bad because it purposely obfuscates to make the artist look clever rather than to actually achieve anything. So much of the 'high art' world is dicksizing bullshit. The best art, to my mind, is engaging, well executed and challenging or thought provoking, but first and foremost it needs to be interesting to experience, or its a waste of time. So many artists I know don't get that, they just make art geared towards fucking government grant programs 'insert buzz word here' type stuff that actually disengages the public rather than interesting them.

100% agreed. While I believe art can be almost anything, generating interest is the most important part. I think if your art doesn't cause a reaction from the person experiencing it, it's not worth the wall it's hanging on, the speakers it's playing through, etc. If it's only meant to be experienced by the artist, what's the point? The purpose of art throughout human history has been to tell stories and convey feelings and emotion.

Its funny because, as someone in art school, people almost take pride in the fact only a select few 'get' their art. To me that just says you're a bad artist however for instance richard tuttle, a fairly famous artist, in a documentary about him was basically grinning as he said 'of the small number of people interested in seeing my shows, maybe 1 in 10 really gets it' white kind of retarded aspiration is that

Art is a word that snoots use to fleece other snoots. Remember tulipmania? Same thing. A much less pretentious term would be "cool shit".

Art is pretty cool
I like art that had a lot of effort put into it. It really shows how amazing it is to be creative and the ability to put imagination to reality. A crossroads of some sorts.

Exactly. That abstract imagination that (I) cannot even put to my own mind to a picture.
The fact someone can imagine this, VISUALZIE IT and put it to paper, is just simply astounding. It really does give me goosebumps thinking about it!
Nice photo.

It's rough but I like it especially the first one, but I really like the abstract arts more than concrete visual art where you can tell exactly what it is.
The flow of colors is most fundamental thing and I don't seem to have a knack for it..

Crystal has been drawing for about a week. Some of her stuff is pretty cool. She definitely has a facility for it. And I am sure you can imagine what her imagination comes up with. Some of it isn't crazy. Some of it is Crystal.

These days I don't think art has any limitation to it. Ever since artists and their pieces such as Marcel Duchampe's "Fountain," Jackson Pollock's drip paintings, and Meret Oppenheimer's "Object," art has become more free and impossible to define in my opinion. Art is anything that you want it to be these days.
For my final art project in school I built a free standing sculpture and then smashed it to pieces for performance art.
In high school my art teacher took us to see this guy who hid under a blanket while he made crazy noises with a saxophone. That was his art.
There are no boundaries to art.

the first one i painted was that first one there, and the thing is i painted on top of my first painting which was crap and purely practice (first time ever doing any), and so i had tried to make shapes out of the shapes already provided with my practice, so essentially i didn't like think "oh i wanna make a house and a tree and water" no...it just came about that way...first the water because i used the back end off the brush (not the brush part but the handle part) and made those waves, and i was like "cool, i'll make a river flowing out of it then" and then the house shape just came about and the tree is actually the back layer of the practice i had done, and i thought "cool it looks like a tree". i intend on finishing it and painting the fresh layer so it all matches, but i haven't gotten around to it.
the second painting i did one big stroke again of the back handle of the brush, and spread out that shape, and then i filled it in, and i was like "perfect, it looks like a fuckin' ear!" and it was good because at the time i was having ear problems (too much loud music) and you can see why (i love music) so...it just made sense.
i painted a bunch of other shit: a mountain side attempt, a smoggy power plant and smoke stack with some reddish hills in front of it, which i eventually painted over with some stuff, and it was also an attempt at a bird at first [lol], and then there was my attmpt to make a sun shape, which ultimately failed...and since all of it wasn't coming together for either of these three painting i cut up the canvas and glued the pieces together on some construction paper and made a fold-out thing, for shits and giggles.
then i have this other thing i started in a ridiculous puke green that just looks awful, green and yellow and it looks kinda like i was gonna make mountain tops with a road leading up to it...but it look poop, so i'm probably either gonna discard it or paint over it.
it was all in good fun for the time being. just whatever came about, that's what happened. i didn't plan any of it.
next time i'll be more cautious with my approach, when i feel like doing some painting again.
it is fuckin fun though, but...damn, it sucks if you're a noob and you mess something up, you don't know how frustrating it was when i messed up my bird i was like "fuck it" *smear smear* then i was like "i killed it" but something good came out it any way, and it was good practice.
so much fun, again, to reiterate. talking about it actually makes me wanna take it up again.

People get too caught up in classifying art. As an artist I don't give a fuck if anyone considers what I do to be "art"
Art is just pure expression and creativity. Everyone has the potential to do it. It about the personal relationship the artist has with their creations. The intent is what makes it meaningful, not what everyone else thinks.
Art is everywhere not even just in the physical. There's an art to everything. Including the way you live and interact with the world around you. Are you living in the moment? Turn your life into a piece of art.
