LC Contam or spores?
    #22285495 - 09/24/15 06:47 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

It's been about three days since I knocked up these two jars.
Boiled the jars in water for 30 mins, then with the same water filled them up and added one tea spoon of unpasteurized honey to each, put a lid on loosely and threw them back in the pot for another 30 mins. (Two)

I'm thinking they're contaminated as it looks mostly like sentiment of the honey.
No color change however.

Well I can tell you that almost all things are against you. Improper lc techniques (best to inoculate with a clean wedge. Not spores) and just a boil isn't really sterilization. That and opening it after to add honey kinda defeats the purpose of sterilization. As for if it's clean.. I can't tell you anything for sure, but they both aren't looking too good imo.

Sorry forgot to add I put them back in the pot of boiling water for an additional 30 mins with a lid twisted on loosely.

I'm not going to lie, I've seen stranger shit work. Sediment is common if you overcooked it. I've never seen myc have a problem colonizing with the sediment. The only real way to tell if it's clean is to test it on a jar or agar dish

I'm not familiar with agar but it sounds like something I need to research.
I'll probably upload new pictures in a week or so depending on how they turn out. I have high hopes.

Do you know if any like stores or labs or whatever sell agar dishes?
