Overlay fix question

Hey there! How is everyone? First time poster and grower so I am sorry if I sound like an idiot. I will do my best. Anyways, for my first grow I decided to use WBS as my substrate, growing p. Cubensis b+ btw. I spawned to a tray using the 50/50 tek for the casing layer. Then I built a SGFC and they have been in there for about a week. I obviously have bad overlay and I know it can be fixed but I already have some pins forming my question is should I just scratch and re-case or let the current pin set finish then re-case? Thank you guys I will leave some pics

So how do you have pins forming if you have overlay? What is overlay, by your definition, exactly?

From my understanding good sir it is when the mycelium overtake the casing layer and basically it becomes part of the substrate. I've read it can still fruit but they will be weak. I may be wrong here however.

I also forgot to mention it is pulling from the sides sort of like its shrinking which I've read is a sign of overlay as well.

That's a sign that the mycelium is consuming the substrate so it can fruit. Cubensis doesn't even need a casing layer. I've never even heard of overlay happening with cubensis. Where are you reading all this?

When you add a casing layer the mycelium is supposed to colonize it. Usually we put into fruiting when 30-50% colonized on the casing layer. Shrinking of the substrate is completely normal as well. The mycelium is using the substrate's water/nutrients to produce fruits (pins).

I was just doing some reading on what could go wrong once you had the tray in the SGFC and it talked about overlay. I didn't know cubensis don't overlay however. They must be talking about other strains. So basically my tray is fine? Sorry to waste space on the forum. xD

I have read some really old threads on here talking about overlay on cubes, When you search for info check the post date or go to the advanced search options for posts in the last few years, this hobby is constantly evolving and there is a lot of out dated info on here

A few months ago, I 'jokingly' said I'd ban the next person who asked an overlay question and it worked . . .until now.
What happens is one person asks about overlay, and for the next six months, every new grower thinks he has overlay.
I can guarantee you don't have it, since I've only seen it a handful of times, and I've been known to have grown a few projects in my day. Full colonization of the casing layer is not overlay. Give lots of fresh air and light, while misting a few times daily and you'll fruit soon. RR

You'll be fine I wouldn't recase it. Just let it fruit

What's up! So I harvested my first ever flush! Here are some pics. Fruits were kinda small but I'm ecstatic to have seen this the whole way through. Final weight wet is about 100 grams. What do you guys think? Is that a decent harvest? Also I'm thinking about running it under the faucet for a couple hours, is this necessary? Or just optional?

just let it soak for an hour or and then drain it. Make sure to be careful not to break the sub when draining. COngrats on the fruits.

Next time you try a cased straight grain project, pour water under the sub mid flush (bottomwatering.) It really helps increase the yield. Especially a pure bird seed substrate will have exceptionally low water capacity, since there isn't much room for mycellium between grains. Good Luck.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Thank you man! Will definitely have to give that a shot! So I dunked my substrate and put it back into the fruiting chamber and just a few days later I get these fat thick guys aren't they pretty haha
