I've been a long time lurker, decided to join up when I found these today. I live in south eastern north carolina..found them in and around horse and cow crap.
They dont seem to show any bluing..or any bruising at all really. The spore print is dark..looks black to me.
I have no clue what they are..figured I would grab them up and try to identify them. Being a damned n00b..havent been able too.
Hoped yall could help out.

I feel pretty confident saying they are a Panaeolus species. I am wanting to say they are some pretty nice Cinctulus. But something doesn't seem quite right about a couple of things. Wait for somebody else's opinion.... If they are Cinctulus though, that means they are mild to moderate actives.

Cool deal. Thanks.
This particular field was covered in whatever these are, and a few cubes. Hopefully these are useful as well. I've been checking this place almost weekly for about a year, it finally paid off.
Thanks again. Hopefully someone can id these.

Did they bruise?
Edit: sorry just reread ur post
I thought they maybe Copelandia sp. but it's not. You have an inactive panealous and to me, the species name is next to useless
It's a great indicator species for actives in your area, you're obviously in the right place
Keep hunting! Post pics!

well that's a shame, haha there were literally thousands of these in the field I visited. Only a few cubes. I need to learn what to look for as far as others go..I believe cubes are somewhat rare in my area.
thanks for the input man, I appreciate it.
ETA: they sort of look like Panaeolus cyanescens now that I've done some digging..though i need to find out for sure..
anyhow thanks again!

Try and find a younger specimen.....I am curious to know what the cap looks like prior to drying.
EDIT:

^^ This is a nice fat Cinctulus which looks very similar to your mushroom there. What really bothers me about yours is the stem. What do you think the species is Lincoln City?

That does look similar, what about the stem bothers you? What should it look and feel like?
Sorry I guess I should go look it up, but for the sake of conversation, I'll press post

Your stem is tan throughout. Cinctulus usually develop some color towards the base and sometimes at the top. Also the cap has some interesting little impressions on it which seem unusual and it also seems to be a bit different in shape but still convex. A mature Cinctulus eventually becomes plane, or flat. But like I said, it looks somewhat like a nice Cinctulus. The spore print is almost certainly black, you can print them if you want but I am pretty sure of that as well. LincolnCity disagrees and I am interested to know what species he thinks it is.
Look up some of the pictures for Panaeolus Cinctulus, formerly known as Panaeolus Subbalteatus (you will find a lot of results under this as well). Take a look at the banding on the caps. Try and find a young specimen when you are out there, one that has been covered by grass or has had some sort of shade to shield it from the sun.
